Ever have to give up a hobby?

Videogames for injuring my brain, it's a useless hobby.

I traded it for boxing and karate.

I feel for you. Have to sell my dirt bike because I can't ride it anymore.

I sold it 2, bought one back, raced once more just show it was possible. Then bought a Streetbike for trackdays. Then got a busted hip from a freak bicycle accident. Now I should prolly ditch the streetbike, (at least this one as its just a racing bike) and buy a commuter or something, but bloody hell who wants that. If my hip ever heals and I get a fake knee implant, I'm gonna see about returning to some better class of riding than mere dualsort. Such is life.

I never ever looked on the guys I rolled and sparred with as friends, more acquaintances, I was more surprised how little I had in common with my ''real'' friends once I gave up the booze, and how quickly I drifted away from them.
I'm sure most of the guys saw me as an acquaintance. But as someone that didn't have many relationships outside the gym, I considered them to be my friends.

What was the injury?

I have up bjj, not b/c of a maor injury, but rather b/c of just getting older and aches and pains lol at me. I took up kickboxing though, and I am good so far. I'm in it to learn, exercise, and have fun so not crazy intense I guess.

I played in a band in undergrad and gave it up when I left that city. I played the blues harp lol basically my friends who were legit musicians (and still are) let me join.
I'm still figuring it out. I went in thinking it was an injury to my arm, but the doctors told me the pain could be attributed to the spine. I need to have some follow up imaging soon.
It's really frustrating because it interferes with my daily routine. The pansy PT exercises still hurt to do so I haven't tried any real exercise since.

I didn't realize how much of my happiness was tied to hobbies. And perhaps some of my identity. I almost feel like I'm not the same person anymore now that I can't do those things.

I always considered BJJ, motocross, skateboarding, karting, and others, sports. Not sure why. Hobbies for me are like stamp collecting and games like chess. Something safe that you do sitting down by a table. Maybe it would fall under collecting. My new hobby since the beginning of 2018 has been collecting elements. That would fall under chemistry. Things like gold, mercury, uranium, and silver. Fascinating to read about and have in front of you, being able to touch it. Elements make up everything on earth and the universe. Humans are made up of elements. Yes, human cells are made up of elements. Almost 99% of the mass of the human body is made up of six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. Maybe you should find a hobby that relates to collecting something you like. I have a friend that collects guitar picks.

For motorcycle lovers. This is a great documentary on MotoGP. These guys hit speeds upwards of 190 mph. Crazy! I met a few when I raced karts in Brazil. 'Hitting the Apex', 2015. This slow motion footage is awesome...(60 frames per second)

I currently have given up judo because of my timetable at university, which is pretty annoying. Everybody is having fun at the club, and in social events.. and here I am

I have a full time job and 3 kids under 10. I have no hobbies of my own.

My ex wife once tried to get me to give up my hobby of going on pornhub and masturbating. Now we have separated I've been able to focus more and expanded to also include xhamster and wankspider.
Try spankbang

I guess this will have to be my new hobby:

I haven't entirely given up golf but I'm way, way down. I used to play 3-5 times a week and was an 8 handicap back when I was 17. Now, I'm lucky to play 10 rounds a year even with taking a 5 day golf trip in March every year. It sucks because I do really enjoy it but between working a lot and trying to financially recover from a divorce, I just don't get out anymore. I can still play. I'm a 13.5 index. But I'm nothing like I was.

I do it, although I don't box competitively anymore.

Nobody has to give up a hobby, people just don't want to give up other things

Used to play guitar and do BJJ. Those became too costly and time consuming. Powerlifting is starting to go out the window too as age is making serious injuries all too possible.

I also enjoy cooking, but even then I find it difficult to set aside time to really focus on making something good. But now that I have a backyard I am tending to my garden and I'm buying a BBQ to start smoking meats again.

Good luck with figuring it out.

Ever have to give up a hobby or something you really enjoy due to an injury, money, time, family, etc.? What was it and were you able to let it go?
I had to give up cocaine. I was snorting a shit ton, as was my buddy at the time. He died of a heart attack, I'm still alive.

I've ridden BMX since I was 14. I'm 33 now and still going strong for the most part. I still lift and do mobility work as prehab in case I take a spill. I used to do a good amount of BJJ in the past but once I got out of college I had a difficult time recovering from BMX, lifting, BJJ, and a physically demanding job in physical therapy. I found myself overtrained pretty often. So I had to cut one out. BJJ had to go for the time being. I called it a hiatus since I intended on going back to it someday, getting my black belt and eventually teaching in some regard.

Flash forward a couple years later and my body starts acting up. I receive a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Through very careful and considerate changes to my diet I'm able to stop the disease and with some very simple meds I've been in remission for over 2 years now. Blood work comes back perfect and symptoms are gone. I'm lucky that I developed no permanent damage and that I'm still able to be as physically active as I was before the diagnosis....but reuniting with BJJ probably won't happen. I just worry that if I start wrenching on my joints it could set off a cascade of inflammation and create a flair up. I'm already rolling the dice somewhat with a dangerous sport like BMX and a strenuous activity like lifting, but honestly I feel great.
