The history of human evolution has been rewritten after scientists discovered that Europe was the birthplace of mankind, not Africa.

Currently, most experts believe that our human lineage split from apes around seven million years ago in central Africa, where hominids remained for the next five million years before venturing further afield.

But two fossils of an ape-like creature which had human-like teeth have been found in Bulgaria and Greece, dating to 7.2 million years ago.

The discovery of the creature, named Graecopithecus freybergi, and nicknameded ‘El Graeco' by scientists, proves our ancestors were already starting to evolve in Europe 200,000 years before the earliest African hominid.

An international team of researchers say the findings entirely change the beginning of human history and place the last common ancestor of both chimpanzees and humans - the so-called Missing Link - in the Mediterranean region.

Pretty cool. Would make sense if human civilization has had more time to evolve in Europe than Africa because that's certainly the state of the world today.

typical white man trying to take everything from my strong black brothers

oh man seriously how are you gonna topple the ancient african civilizations and empires with all their rich cultures, discoveries and massive untold mysteries, oh wait

Didn't happen if we continue to rewrite history

And as far as this article

Eden is the birthplace of humanity, you heatherns.

I've always had some issue with the Out of Africa theory in that it seems like an unlikely avenue for migration (nevertheless a series of migrations) but that's what the fossil evidence supports. The discovery reported in this article is fascinating but yet a far cry from rewriting OoA.

If the findings are correct, the idea that man evolved from ape is shot in the head. This means creatures very close to humans were already living in Europe at a time when paleontology claims apes went full biped in Africa, creating a new lineage.

There goes Louis Leakey's theory.

Ya but then they all got together later in the ice age and started fuckingg neanderthals.

Wut?

One study, against hundreds of established ones that traces our common lineage to Africa.

I'm gonna say this one is going to get thrown out rather quickly.

Wouldn't that just be a case of different branches on the same tree? Parallel development if you will?
