"Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday.

All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said."

If North Korea were to obliterate South Korea and nuke several US cities, why wouldn't China just sit back and do nothing?

They still get their trade deals and $$$ with us -- and now they also potentially get the entire Korean peninsula and the entire South China Sea, uncontested. And if it doesn't work and we win, why would they care? Virtually no risk, possibly win the entire Risk gameboard.

North Korea having ICBMs is our problem, not China's problem. It turns the gameboard in their favor.. They probably find it hilarious that you think they're benevolent angels who will miraculously come to your rescue.

Frankly, you only believe in that idiotic policy because you want to believe in it. It's easier and painless in the short term for you. It's a strategy for the impulsive. Impulsiveness is human nature and easy to manipulate..

No one wanted to make the hard choices 10 years ago either and opted for the short-term painless route instead. Now, North Korea has NUKES.

But we're trading partners.. Surely, China would intervene if North Korea got atomic bombs, right? Well, that's what they told us 10 years ago.. WRONG.
Ha yeah who cares if they nuke South Korea. Just a bunch of Asians get killed right? Just like Japan right? [disclaimer to mods: this is sarcasm. Grow a set]

Thanks nice analysis, any links for me to read?

Kim Jong Un executing his uncle:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-25359939

From the article:

"In August 2012, Mr Chang made a high profile trip to China, where he met then-President Hu Jintao. The two sides later signed a raft of economic deals, including the development of two special economic zones: Rason, on North Korea's east coast, and Hwanggumphyong, on the border with China."

Kim eliminated somebody that had a known, productive, relationship with China.

Kim Jong Un has purged over 340 people since taking power:

"Of those killed, about 140 were senior officers in the country's government, military and ruling Korean Worker's Party."

The key word is "senior". These were people who had been around a long time and were known to have relationships with the Chinese. How do we know? Because 85-95% of NK's economy is based on trade with China and China is NK's main source of food, energy and arms. Everybody in NK's government has had to deal with the Chinese at some point. Senior personnel have had a longer relationship with the Chinese government; their elimination limits China's resources in Pyongyang.

Wasn't having a go, genuinely wanted the read so thanks mate I appreciate it.

I don't think people really know just how volatile the situation is and if this is the case it's a lot worse than I thought.
If he has decided that he doesn't want any "moderate" influence and is willing to hurt himself in this manner than he's far from stable. Worse yet his chosen advisors may be picked parrots.

I thought Trump was going to be America first, more isolationist.
