This is so good on so many levels. For those who value freedom of speech this is a must watch and for those who don't, this is really, really a must watch!

What do you think authoritarians, who want everyone to obey their will, would prefer more? A nation of free thinking individuals, guided by their own beliefs, opinions and desires? Or a nation of people who can't detect truth, and who don't know what they're 'allowed' to think, or 'allowed' to say? Which would rulers prefer? Ron Paul discusses the mental prison known as Political-Correctness.

Freedom of speech is a two way street. IF someone says something I don't agree with then I should call them out. Nobody has been jailed for what they said.

Example Roseann said something dumb, people called her out on it, end of story. It was not some unseen attack on the First Amendment. Should she have lost her job, well that is up to a private company, ABC.
This is some sort of false equivalence.
So according to some, I should be able to run down the street yelling the N word and nobody should call me out for it, because derp Free Speech, First Amendment, Bro.

You are clearly misinformed. Historians and scientists have been imprisoned in so called free nations that the USA considers her allies for asking questions about WWII.

This has nothing to do with Roseanne. Now go watch the video please.

Pretty sure the First Amendment guarantees everyone the right to their own TV show, dude.

What other nations have a first amendment?
You can say what you want, but don't act like a bitch or use the first amendment as a shield, when people call you out if you say something repulsive.

I encourage people calling out little bitches. That is why free speech is so important.

First amendment does not protect hate speech.

Roseanne said what she said, no one censored her, she’s not in jail. ABC thought it was in their best interest to part ways with someone who represents the company publically in a way that is not in line with their stands. When you work for a publically trader company your first responsibility is to the companies image.

But it does protect hate speech. Most recently affirmed last year.

Let me ask you this. If a private company fired her for not denying the Holocaust, you OK with that?

Btw, I think it is hilarious that we talk about PC killing free speech, when AIPAC and the Israeli lobby are the ones who have criminalized boycotting.

I have been fairly consistent on my stand on private companies. So yes, but the market will sort that company out. There are protests daily of businesses doing dumb shit and when it hurts them economically they apologize and fix the situation. That is how free market works.

We seem to have trouble talking about the gray area in speech, where we all acknowledge that the speech is legal, yet we tend to "infringe" on free expression regardless. But whatever the optimal balance is at any given moment, we're constantly bargaining and arguing about what we should collectively allow or support, regardless of law or the first amendment. That's what makes these appeals to the first amendment so cowardly and disingenuous. It's like agreeing to settle things between each other, but running off crying to teacher when it doesn't go your way.

    But, isn't that hate speech?

I mean that is illegal across most of Europe.

Ok, I could see your point there.

Do you see the point, that if you view this from a perspective of decades, and not months, that the trend here is to Authoritarian?
