I've never fought in a cage, but I would guess once you are sweaty, it's easier to slide about on the coating of the fence. As someone else pointed out, you almost never see imprints of the fence on a fighters back even after being grinded against the cage for an entire round. As I say though, I'm just guessing.

Should be replaced with plexiglass like hockey. Easier to see, and when someone gets cut open it would like like a murder scene.
