I just re-watched how he destroyed Vera, Shogun, Sonnen, Machida and more of his earlier opponents. They all had nothing for him from their backs.

However, although he does not have the most powerful strikes standing up, he generates a lot of force and power from his top game in mma. His elbows are some of the most brutal in the sport.

Although he didn't always get finishes from his ground strikes alone, his ground striking did help in breaking his opponents down until they could take no more.

Other possible candidates could be; Khabib Nurmagomedov, Demetrious Johnson, Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. EDT: and also Ben Askren.

Who do you think is the best at ground striking?

Although we haven't seen it on display since he fought Chael Sonnen, probably.

I don't think it is necersarily because of USADA, DC, Texeira and Gustafsson are all a lot better than his past opponents of getting off of their backs.

But whatever, I sure do miss his elbows

I'm not a big Fedor fan, but in his prime his ground and pound was savage.

Yeah, Fedor and I'd add Tito and Hughes. Opponents knew they were in for a world of hurt if the fight went to the mat with those guys

The effectiveness of his striking is somewhat due to his freakish physical gifts -- reach, height, leverage, strength and coordination.
