Does anyone think the Khabib knockdown punch and the Aldo KO punch looked similar?

In both cases, you can see Conor tap the opponent’s hand with his right hand while setting up his left. And both punches by Khabib and Aldo seemed like wild lunging punches.

I was surprised at how far off Conor’s timing was throughout the fight. He normally likes to bait his opponents into committing heavily with an overhand strike. But his reaction look way off on Khabib’s overhand right. It also looks like he was about to counter with a left, but hesitated too much and reacted way too slow.

Conor thought the TD was coming and got smashed with a blazing overhand.

    The goof.

I think the others are misunderstanding what you mean. Yes, what Conor is doing in both is the same. He's measuring with his lead hand, and pivoting to his left slightly, (he didn't do this part against Aldo), to step off to the side and come over Khabib's right with his counter left. Problem was Khabib was throwing a wild overhand, not a right straight, so Conor didn't avoid the right. He's not attempting to defend a takedown in the gif above, despite what the others are saying.

It certainly looks like he’s setting up to prevent a TD. He looks down and his hips shoot backwards.

    none whatsoever.

one was a guy rushing in sloppy and getting caught.

the other was a guy expecting a takedown and reacting and getting caught

His timing was off because he was scared of getting taken down and beat up again.

Khabib faked a takedown and threw the overhand right.

Khabib has that unorthodox Russian boxing. Hard to read.

Not the same punch but, it's the same combo Conor used. Pawing with the lead, step back and pivot, fire the left. At this point everyone knows to look out for it and Khabib baited him into with a jab feint.

People keep saying he was preparing for a take down but he doesnt position himself for a sprawl. Compare it to when he stuffed Khabib's TD in the 3rd in the center of the cage. Totally different stances and center of gravity.

You're the first I've seen claim he is not defending a take down. Kabib faked the takedown and through the flailing right, a pretty common occurrence for a wrestler/grappler, and Conor reacted to the fake.

He was in prime and not gassed vs Aldo. He’s two years removed from mma, partying, drugs, alcohol, ans spent 5 minutes under khabib. Not sure if we will ever see a prime Conor again
