he's not though, like in boxing pay is based on your ability to draw. When Roman Gonazales was #1 P4P in boxing he and DJ were both making the same amount per fight, because both are small guys that can't draw.
and do you think that is fair or just? both of them should earn more.
it is disgusting that CM Punk can be gifted a roster spot and get utterly exposed and humiliated as not belong, yet because he brought in fans, his disclosed pay (never mind his actual pay) significantly exceeds what DJ earns as a dominant champion.
at some point 'merit' has to be rewarded. IMHO, it is a black eye for the UFC to have the divisional GOAT and arguably P4P #1 to be earning so little, relative to many of his peers (who aren't even his peers in terms of in-cage accomplishments).
the UFC has to shoulder some blame for that, especially with the bullshit Reebok deal. I think it goes without saying that Dana and the UFC have not invested into DJ and the division what they could. When your promoter is threatening to scuttle your division, when he criticizes and disparages you instead of hyping you up...that's pretty fucking sad.
IMHO, there is no reason to not take a million or two from the tens of millions that guys like Brock and Conor bring in, and dole that out to the champs like DJ who deserve better pay, especially when the org treats those guys VERY differently. Never mind taking any money from those guys...the UFC sold for a total of 5 billion...the money is there to improve fighter pay.
it is ultimately yet another argument for a fighter's association or union, and collective bargaining. MMA (and boxing) should be more reflective of other pro sports, where the salary differences between athletes is nowhere near as great, "draw" or not.
