Floyd obviously was before him, but even Floyd never really chased "Money fights", in fact he ducked/avoided the biggest money fight for years. But now after Floyd fought him and Manny, Oscar etc calling him out, its clear that Conor is the biggest "Money fight" in combat sports.

N.B: I'm talking about fighting straight up for the money, not legit competitive fights.

He showed what an mma fighter could actually consistently make. But you have to be marketable. This isn't a sport anymore. It's a show.

He started to BE a money fight.
    Everybody wanted to fight him

The "money fight" movement started with Conor's "Red Panties" quote.

People who say Conor started the money fight trend in mma are idiots.
He fought top contenders, then Chad(#1 contender), then the champion Aldo, then was supposed to fight the champ RDA before he got injured, then the champ Alvarez.
He didn't ask for a Diaz(guy bellow his weight class ) or GSP like Woodley does.
He didn't ask to fight old man Hendo and retired GSP like Bisping did instead of fighting the next guy in line.
Conor simply made every fight he was in a "money fight" regardless of the opponent.

Member when the UFC had that 'Fighters Seminar' in which the speaker told the fighters "You're ALL Conor McGregor.." in an attempt to try and rile up the troops to WANT to make money like Conor by acting like Conor.

Then went on to give the fighters some retail 50% discount cards and chips to ignite their thirst for success.

fighters like sterling who got KTFO last night, act like they deserve 100k to
show up. Says who and based on what?

People forget, this is prize fighting. Key word "prize." you get paid what you can bring in for the promoter. MMA has always been a cut throat business model, and why people try to change this, make zero sense.

Mcgregor gets paid 3 mil because he can bring in 1.2 mil ppv buys for the company. Sterling, can't even rile up 20,000 viewers on Facebook live, thus why he only gets 20,000 to show.

And then everybody did stat acting like Conor and still got paid shit while he got even more money. Good one, UFC!

That seminar was basically the fighters being told "beatings will continue until morale improves".

Actually when all is said and done Mcgregor has been pulling in between 15 and 20 million for his UFC fights. As for everything else I couldn't agree more. The entitlement some people have is mind boggling. Prize fighting has always been just as much of a spectacle as it has been a sport. You can be the elite of the elite, but you need to put buts in seats to make a dime. Ward vs Kovalev is a perfect example of this.

Dana White started the "money fights". Dana sold the UFC's integrity the minute he gifted McDucker a LW title shot, twice, without cleaning out FW. The Mayweather fight was only allowed until the UFC established it's share the pie. Then it just spiraled outta control from there.

he started the red panty night trend,

conor hasnt really taken any fights for the money, other than the mayweather fight. his goals were pretty much to get the two titles as fast as possible and he did.

his opponents tho do see conor as the money fight. so they are all gonna want to fight him. thats why nate, alvarez etc were all so hyped to fight him. for them conor is the money fight because noone else draws as much,

nate did became a household name with his victory over conor so he is the "money:" fight for conor in ufc.

No. Many other fighters have done the same thing. They just didn't do it as well as Conor. As much as I dislike him his play is almost genius, accidental or not.

Toney was doing it for a payday and to keep his name out there, for sure. Brock, though, I suspect did it because he actually wanted to be a fighter. Though I'm sure he already was negotiation-savvy from WWE days.

As for the thread topic, fighters chasing big money fights have been around forever. Connor just brought to new levels, in an mma context.
