48-47 Maia pretty easily

won rounds 3, 4 and 5 on aggression, forward pressure and landing the cleaner offense
 
He went 0 for 21 on sloppy takedowns, didn't land any memorable strikes on Woodley, and had visible damage from blocking every one of Woodley's punches with his face.

Aggressiveness, pace and octagon control

He had damage from one single punch, he only too about three clean shots during the entire match
Woodley gets no extra points for defense, defense is it's own reward and he could generate no effective offense late in the fight

And Maia generated more damage by hurting Woodley's shoulder

td is like going for strikes. maia was pushing the action even if it didnt land. its a lt easier to get a TD when opponent is willing to engage for strike and tyrone did none of that. woodley is the one with some shoulder tear and maia is out there training with jones.
 
I'm just trying to imagine what it would be like if Maia won.

Also Maia had almost a guaranteed TD when Woodley did the first fence grab.

He was scooped up and was going ass first and then magic grab.

Fence grabs should be an instant deduction OR a restart in guard when they clearly prevent a takedown

Exactly!

Effective defense is ITS OWN REWARD, the reward being the chance to generate scoring offense
You don't get points for stuffing takedowns, your reward is not being on your back - you actually have to do something after
