Muscle is a burden past the first round. S&C for sure but keep it reasonable, being huge in combat sports is overall a detriment.

Why did you use the term body building in the title?

BB is the last thing you want to do as an MMA athlete. Do you rralise the difference between strength training and BB?

Strength building is just that - building strength with minimal hypertrophy while BB is all about hypertrophy. They are night and day different.

Also, lifting crazy high weight compound lifts goes beyond the use for strength training in an MMA setting. What's more functional, squatting 500lb once, or squatting 300lb 5 times?

Why did you start this thread?

Wouldn't that depend on a fighter's weight class and style? Alistair Overeem didn't excel at LHW like he did when he bulked up, for example. Smothering opponents with his weight was central to Brock Lesnar's game.

    Bodybuilding?
    What about strength training?
Having a nice body in the octagon does not help you win fights..

Body Builders Have zero FUNCTIONAL muscle. They never train VO2 max. Cardio is everything in combat sports. They have none. There muscles are a direct result of large amounts of steroids, mixed with a Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy training Style. Meaning there muscles are maid up of liquid called Sarcoplasm. None functional. The kind of muscle you want as an athlete is Myofribrillar Hypertrophy. Look into it.

For sure, which is why I said overall a detriment. Brock had/has bizarre cardio for a man his size. Reem was always fairly patient. There are outliers.
