I disagree with this. In fact, I almost never clasp my hands when I work the double underhook pass because of a pretty common counter. Basically, if he does that and sucks you up you just push his hands up while cinching your hips down and shrimping. It's a pretty effective way to make space IMO.

Shit, I must be doing something wrong because my counter to this is go elbow to elbow, roll through as if going to turtle, stink bug, and then step out for an easy counter that leaves me in side control.

May be too technical for a beginner to learn basic defense though, ya know?

Or maybe I'm just not able to picture what you mean.

You have to drive your legs down and keep moving your hips back while creating angles so you can get your legs free to reestablish guard.

see in the videos up there how they set up the triangle? instead of going left arm thru his right arm and pulling it thru for the triangle, use your right arm and just hit the armdrag

Post up on elbow facing away from him, push his elbow with a stiff arm, scoot hips. aka the elbow push escape.

That is a solid late escape for any underhook pass ... but it's late. Better to defend early.

I love to defend this pass since unless your opponent locks his hands, he is setting himself up for ugly failure. Block the hands at your hips, lock his hands to your hips, and you can attack him all day with near impunity while he just takes it.

Rolling is another good late defense, but guys who are good at this pass will not let you roll. You need to break down their control earlier in order to roll successfully.
