dear sherbros, plz do NOT play play or real cash games online poker

I know for sure at least one sherdogger that makes gajillions of dollars as a professional gambler, but I don't want to out him in case he doesn't want his business out there.
Tell him to pm me haha. It's been driving me nuts. Anyone that makes it to and plays at that level is insanely good.

The "House" collects rake regardless who wins the pots so they have no point in rigging games. Besides, you play poker against other players, not the house.

I suppose TS' point could be that the "other players" are in fact bots and the card distribution is rigged, but I assume if one played consistently they'd have some better insight than I.

A friend I used to know played online. He played multiple games at once and just played the odds. Made a steady amount. It was a profitable hobby for him.

What some people claim to have happened is that it is in the House's interest to have bigger pots more often, so cards are dealt to induce such result rather than completely random. In other instances, people have been caught cheating, the one I know happened a while ago so I am hazy on the details, but the gist of it is that the guy can see opponents hole cards.
Based on my limited experience with online poker years ago I do believe this to be true re 'juiced pots'. Also the Super USer accounts have been proven.

People have always said online poker is rigged.

I worked in the industry for almost a decade, and I don't believe it.

It's basically a license to print money and your reputation is everything, too big a risk.

You simply would not believe the effort they put into stopping players from cheating.

Sites have been busted for Super User accounts and back doors. I wiish the amount of money they made was reason not to cheat but it is not just as even in old Vegas many brick and morter casino's, despite having that licence to print money were busted cheating.

Read up on the case sighted next if you want to see how bad the abuse gets. That guy (Russ) could have just laid low and cheated forever and taken as much money as he wanted but his arrogance made him rub it in others faces and he got busted.

You're talking about the Super User scandal from UltimateBet years ago

That was centered around one employee here, Russ Hamilton who abused his position and his "Super User" account that can see hold cards to cheat.

There have been other scandals from other sites but the usual "the site is rigged" is just emotional rants from bad players 99% of the time.

I used to be the Quality Control Manager for a major food company and in that industry we had an expression that 'for every one roach you caught you had to know there were a hundred more you never did'. That was to ensure we remained vigilant and understood it was not just some coincidence we caught the only one.

While I agree with you most people complaining about cheating are just sore losers, I would bet everything that for every cheat that was caught back in those early days that dozens if not hundreds more were quietly going about and never getting caught. Advances in tracking software have helped though.

I saw on TV from a online poker website some hackers could easily see the opponents cards and play accordingly.

Make sure you people choose only the most famous and reliable platforms

I spent thousands of hours playing online back in the day and made alot of money.

As far as I know there aren't any legit sites still servicing US customers.

Careful, bud. Some places do have bots in place once you play in higher buy in tournies. That being said, I will say it is possible to make money playing. I never was too good at poker and only won a single tournament where the prize was over $100. However, I did on one or two occasions make $500+ playing the online casino. This was years ago so maybe things have changed...

Online poker is a little different compared to back in the day so I really don't know how it is now. My brother didn't even play much and profit over $50k in one year. Back then was easier though since a lot of players didn't know how to play. I know he would play 4 hands at once mostly limit cash games. Then they had a big crackdown in online poker. His money was stuck for a long time, but eventually got it out. This was like 15ish years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he profit over $100k total, which is nothing compared to the full-time online pros that would make 7 figures. I honestly think he could have been one of those guys if he went full force.

Same here. I played low stakes but was very successful. I played all the time up until Black Friday. I made $8000 on one site by playing no higher than $.$50/$1.00 limit Omaha high low. I was also successful on poker stars playing $5 and $10 SNGs and Omaha tournaments. My largest tournament cash was $1300. I was going to move up in stakes but then Black Friday killed everything. It also killed the local casino poker room. They use to have 18 tables maxed out with a 2 hour wait. Now at most they have is 2 tables (of nits)

It wasn’t 15 years ago. It was a lot more recent than that.

Friend of mine called me at 2am one morning screaming "I'VE WON A 3 THOUSAND MAN TOURNEY!"

Fair play to him. Won about 5 grand.

Yeh nothing beats the glory days of party poker. I played .25/.50 cash games for years, making probably 200-300 a week through college. Eventually I made the move to 1/2 cash game and started making bank. ...200-400 every night. I'd make a trip to my local bank once a week and withdraw 1200-1800 bucks.

I took a shot at the 1000$ buy in cash game and although I had a terrible run of cards and lost a grand, I found that the players were just as reckless as the lower games. I was plotting a move to the 1000 buy in stakes on a regular basis when black Friday hit. I may have failed but I think there's also a great chance I'd bring home 2k-5k a week, maybe more.

Anyway, Yeh post poker is shit now, both live and online. Only people left playing are total nits that you need an absolute cooler to double up off of.

I remember those good old days. Used to love playing SnG’s more than the regular tables.

Always felt there were some hijinx going on. So I stopped online and went to just brick and mortar only.

Yes, I think a lot of the major online poker sites got shut down less than 10 years ago, maybe 7-8 years ago? Not sure... He started playing online I think 15 years ago, but could be closer to 12-13 years I can't remember. I know the first time I played a live tournament was in Vegas at the Binion around 2003 I think. Feels so long ago.

Unless you were talking about the 2006 UIGEA ACT. I don’t recall much money being held up then. The main holdup was blAck Friday 2011.

I would have to ask him specifically. I know he played on Poker Stars a lot. Could have been in 2011.

I will say one thing. Online poker is the only place where a 5 max cash game will have 3 people sitting there with sets

Not only that but all 3 players will flop sets, not even turn or river them. That's not something you see often playing live, you might never see that live but online it happens way too often.

Now keep in mind that's a 5 max table not a 9-10 max table. Huge difference
