David (Tank) Abbott at age 30

Form wasn't terrible, but the bounce off the chest would crush most people, lol. Anyway, he was always a fan favorite. I saw him get tapped out fast by Frank Mir in Atlantic City after a long layoff. I still have the shirt that says, "The Return of Tank".
damn id love that shirt. whats your opening bid?

I don't think Tank was dumb. He was a hell of a lot smarter than most of the guys out there at the time. There was a contingent of fans who wanted to watch fights, but didn't like the hoity toity holier than thou traditional martial arts stoicsm, and he was a guy who didn't bother with all that.
he has a history degree, just putting that out there.

I always thought that if I'd been a DJ/producer, my name would have been 'Dank Abbott'.

He used to give truck drivers hope around the world.

Ive never seen a source for tank admitting he used fake weights other than anonymous sherdoggers claiming he admitted it to them or said it in a bar or something

I know you're going to hate me, but I've never understood the love for Tank, people go on like he's Fedor.

You had to be there. He stood out so much from everyone else. Also you have to like violence.

that’s a great way to put it. he stood out soooo much. you knew tank was bad.

in an interview where someone asked him what his best knockout was, he said it was in a drive thru where he was in a buddy’s car and some biker behind him started shit with him and he got out and knocked the guy out cold and his bike fell over and was laying there idling with the wheel spinning then he got back in the car and got his food.

It wasn't.

Marcias threw the fight unbeknownst to Oleg who was visibly pissed.

They shared the same manager so he was the one who allegedly made the call.
OK, that sounds more reasonable, but what is your source for this?

Every book or article that covers the SEG era of ufc mentions this situation

How many sherdoggers could even hold up 600 pounds on the bench without it crashing down on them, let alone lower it and bounce it back up.

There's noth8ng "fake" about a man benching 600lbs. Who gives a shit about form when your lifting that much. Obviously he transitioned his "bad form" into properly knock8ng the fuck out of people.
At that time, the raw world record for the bench was 705 lbs, so unless you're dumb enough to think Tank Abbot was an elite power lifter, it was fake.

I dont find the old ufc events unbearable at all,i find them facinating and all the early particpants are the absolute madmen. Only thing that hurt was the no time limit made guys circle around way too much.

whether you are a fan of Tank Abbot is the acid test for legitimate long-term Fight fans, IMO.

If you were watching back then, you are a fan of Tank.

Despite what the pride nerds might say, Tank was the earliest, most badass fighter, no contest.
This is truth.

The UFC was so bad then.
Prime Tank vs Prime Roy Nelson.... Nelson would have killed him via not gassing after 30s.
Maybe skill wise, but man would i love to see more brawlers like Tank be evenly matched in todays events. Pure violence. The JBG would be pleased.

Prime Nelson would have taken him down and crucifixed him

......it's not hard to find with a bit of digging.
Every source I found was only speculating.

Big John did state in his book he thought it was fixed, but again, only speculating. I think it’s probably correct that Macias threw the fight, but you state it like it’s fact, when it’s just a believable and likely true hypothesis.

I do think you are right - but we don’t know for sure. Real fights do end very quickly sometimes, after all.

Bad form but no denying the guy was strong as fuck.

I knew I'd find someone critique his form.

Bad form or not, most men would crumble trying to even hold it up.

Lol

Okay then.

25 kg plates each.

6 plates each side.

Do you even math bro ?

Some of those plates were fake, he even admitted it. Did you honestly believe it was 600 lbs? You prolly dont realize how rare 600 lbs bench is, there is a handful of elite level powerlifters who can do that (vast majority of them are bench specialists).
