Dave Meltzer: UFC agreed to what Conor wanted, then Conor changed what he wanted

"UFC maintains that any champion is expected to accept fights against the top contenders in their respective weight classes in order to maintain the integrity of the sport.”
- UFC statement after stripping de Randamie of her title.

"Different rules apply when you are a star."

- Pretty much every sport and entertainment business in the history of the world

You let a guy make $100 million against a fighter that redefined how the pie was split in the boxing world (Mayweather) and then expect him not to do the same thing when it is time to sit down at the negotiating table? That's on the UFC.

The ufc has no reason to release him. They can keep him in limbo and offer him what his latest contract says. At least for mma. For boxing, i have no clue, although they would get a chunk of what he makes.

I'm pretty sure Conor knows he needs the UFC if he wants to keep his stardom going. I doubt this report is even true. Conor knows you don't come to table asking for what you want and then ask for more if they agree. He knows to start with much more and try to settle with what you really wanted from the start. Doing it like this report says is just going to piss off everyone involved, including his own management, who would also never advise him to do this. He has more or less stated he doesn't want to fight around the holidays this year before all this started. I think we'll see him back in the UFC late Q1 or early Q2.

I think he also knows that he maybe able to make a quick buck in boxing but his star power would be lost very quickly. He can't compete with any of the guys that can actually make him money. He won't admit that to the public but he knows it and blow joe public would realize it quickly also. I think he has more or less left boxing behind.

Conor isnt fighting again is combat sports career has been over for a few months now move on .... honestly his whole career was probably scripted mendes took a dive obviously and eddie prolly did the same $$$$$$$$$$$...think about it

Nate is a very good fighter, just not elite. He looked like he was coasting to a loss so he could have match 3 (money fight)
You gotta be an idiot to think that. Diaz bros are not cunning people. They are manufactured in the school of "ain't no bitch"

Don't buy all this BS hype.

Conor was one month into negotiations & the UFC cut it off due to him getting excited & jumping the cage to congradulate his friend. it got rough & so the UFC had to cut off negotiations.

Everything is pointing at March 3, 2018 for Mac vs. Ferg. (only 5 months after negotiations began)

That's not excessive. The resistance just has their red panties in a wad... don't buy into it.

Oct. 7th 2017 - Negotiations began for Ferg vs. Conor
Nov 10th 2017 - Negotiations weren't done yet & Conor slapped a Bellator official so the UFC put off negotiations

Nov 11th 2017 - present - Meanwhile all parties are pointing toward Vegas in March 3, 2018 for Mac vs. Ferg

Oct 7, 2017 - March 3, 2018 = 5 months.
That's not excessive people
thats 7 mmonths since he fought mayweather.....but well over a year since he won the UFC LW title......surely he could have squeezed in another fight by now....

After Mayweather... there was a fight all ready scheduled for October 6 to see who he would fight... so it wouldn't make sense for him to "squeeze something in"... ya know. he pretty much had to wait till that happened as the whole idea of that interim fight was to see who Mac would fight next.

We had the delay in negotiations for him jumping the Bellator cage... but even Aldo commented that he did the same thing at a lesser promotion when his team mate was fighting. It's unfortunate that it escalated after they put their hands on him... and delayed his UFC fight... but all indicators seem to be focused on March 3...

I think everyone's just jumping the gun too much on all this. Oct. 7, 2017 was when Conor's opponent was chosen. March 3, 2018 is when they will fight. That's just 5 months.

What exactly would Conor do when Tony ate those shots just like Diaz did and kept coming forward? This was an intriguing fight before Conor/Diaz. Now it's pretty obvious.

Conor is a talented striker at FW that has big FW power. He hits guys that size, generally they are done. Obviously his power isn't going to carry up to guys in bigger weight classes who are known to have solid chins (of which Ferguson is one).
Conor vs Diaz was fought at 170. At 155 Conor dropper Eddie MULTIPLE times. Even at 170 Conor dropped Diaz 3 times. Conor’s striking and specifically counter striking is world class.

How much of that $100 million did he actually get? I thought the UFC would have received the majority of that money.

According to Darren Rovell, the UFC's cut (10% of all revenue) and Conor's cut were separate.

Champions shouldn't be sitting and waiting for challengers to emerge.....there is always the top guy for him to fight....or at least one of them.....

Look at Bispings championship time.....telling every single top contender that they hadn't done enough for a shot at the MW title.....and then fighting Henderson and GSP.....

Now we have a MW belt that hasn't been defended against a top MW in two years.....

16 months is WAY too long to be sitting on a title without a defense.....

The UFC needs to make a rule that barring injury, champions will be stripped if they go 9 months without defending their belt against AT LEAST 1 fighter in the top 10 of the division....

Tony's belt is more legitimate than Conors.....Tony is on a 10 fight win streak and has fought and tried to fight the best in the division.....

Conor has had 1 LW fight in the UFC.....and it was over a year ago....

I don't have a problem with the UFC gift-wrapping title shots to increase revenue. But there is a big problem when fighters are able to turn their belts into tin.....

There shouldn't be more legitimate titles than the 'real' one......

GSPs belt hasn't been defended against a top MW since 2015.....

Mcgregors belt hasn't been defended against a top LW since July 2016...by the time Mcgregor defends his belt, it will be almost 2 years that the top LW fighter in the world hasn't been recognized as the best, whether its Khabib or Tony.....

Once again, the problem isn't the UFC gift-wrapping title shots for undeserving contenders.....the problem is, if those contenders pull off the upset, getting the new champion to defend his belt in a division where he hasn't proven to be the best fighter.....

It's almost as if the belts are promotional tools and don't really determine who is actually the best in the world.....

It cant be both ways.....either its a legitimate reward for the best....OR its a promotional tool......

if they have official rankings and state that the title is for the best fighter in each division, then they cant use them arbitrarily any more.....it would be kind of a fraud on the fans and the fighters....

If the titles lose legitimacy.....they lose their power as promotional tools....

in two divisions right now, there are interim belts with more credibility than the 'real' belt....

it isn't both ways...they're promotional tools. always have been always will be.

It's always been like this, it's not new.

At one point in Pride Fedor fought like 4-6 NON TITLE FIGHTS in a row....while he was the HW Champ.

Right now in the Bellator HW tourney, Bader and King Mo (both LHW's) are fighting....and the LHW belt isn't on the line. So if Mo wins....he'll have beat "the best' and still not be the champ.

The UFC is a business...their point is to make money....the way they make the most money is appealing to casuals. Casuals don't really give a shit about belts. If they did, Mighty Mouse would be the biggest draw of all time.
