Daria is getting a reboot

TF, when did everyone start hating on Daria? It's a cult classic for me and tons of people I know.

If they can truly bring Darias dry wit to the modern era without placating it will be great, she was a perfect character for the times.

Daria knew what was up.

One of the co creators did a 20 year update last year

“The sardonic teen has left the suburbs of Lawndale for New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen (naturally), where she’s grown up to become the only female writer on a late-night talk show. She lives alone — except for her black cat named Godzilla, who is toilet-trained, thanks to Daria’s hard work and dedication — and while she’s tried the online dating game, she hasn’t found anyone special quite yet. Oh, and in case you were wondering, she’s gotten past her crush on Trent.”

Jane Lane:

“Daria’s closest friend and confidante never gave up on her ambitions: She’s a professional artist who’s sold a few pieces, though she still hasn’t “made it big.” She lives in a loft in SoHo with her husband who’s an archaeologist and rarely home, so luckily the besties get to spend tons of time together. They enjoy going to art shows and film events where you’re supposed to socialize, but — surprise! — they only talk to each other.”

Trent Lane:

“While his Mystik Spiral days are over, Trent has found, well, not success exactly, but… a functioning band in Trent Lane and the Mystikal Explosion. He lives with his four bandmates in Queens. Trent had some financial success with Mystik Spiral’s one-hit wonder, “Freakin’ Friends,” but since then has been making ends meet as a bartender. He and Jane still spend a lot of time together, and Daria often joins in. (See? It’s not weird anymore, guys.)”

Quinn:

“The younger sister of Daria has consciously uncoupled from her college sweetheart and dropped her last name. (Rumor has it that once Quinn realized his athletic abilities weren’t going to cut it professionally, she was done.) Quinn has triplet sons — Timmy, Tommy, and Teddy — and she still lives in Lawndale. In between caring for her boys and her hair extensions, she’s hard at work on her popular YouTube channel dedicated to dessert and skin care called “S’mores and Pores.”

Jake and Helen Morgendorffer:

“Daria and Quinn’s parents are living it up as retirees. Every time Daria speaks to them, they’re venturing out on yet another cruise, but whenever they’re back in Lawndale, they’re breaking a sweat in their weekly dance class.”

Brittany and Kevin Thompson:

“The head cheerleader and quarterback of Lawndale High are married and have three girls and two boys. Brittany is the weathergirl at the local news station and moonlights as part-time cheerleading coach at Lawndale High. Kevin is a stay-at-home dad who dabbles in children’s birthday-party entertainment. While he can’t quite squeeze into his belly-baring uniform anymore, you better believe Brittany’s cheerleading uniform fits her like a glove — and she wears it every Halloween.”

I don't know anyone who ever watched the show...I thought the consensus was that it sucked and she's the most annoying cartoon character ever...definitely didn't realize any guys watched it...

Daria was an absolutely brilliant show.

This reboot is going to fall flat on its face.

Jodie was an incredibly irritating character.

Was ahead of its time.

I don't even think that. I think it was absolutely perfect for its time. Daria really pointed out how vapid much of the post grunge "fun loving late 90s" era was, and was really an icon for apathetic angst. It also highlighted the differences while pointing out several times that Daria was just as much of an asshole as the people she looked down upon.

Those are pretty clever. To be honest, Beavis and Butthead was one of the first shows I remember as a kid. Some of my opinions were formed at that age and I never bothered to go back and reassess. Daria being one of them, she's a girl and that's lame!

Daria had an amazing soundtrack for the era too, how they use music in this reboot will really determine if it's going to be good or just a nostalgic flash in the pan.

Running from 1997-2001, the series now seems like a perfect time-capsule of this liminal time in music, with the last vestiges of grunge and what MTV wanted us to call "alternative" rubbing up against skater punk, increasingly commercialised hip-hop and British invasion bands such as Gomez, Oasis and Supergrass.

In almost every case, Daria acts as a springboard for these groups, featuring a slew of music which hadn't yet crossed over into the mainstream. A lot of it never did, and a lot of it seems out of place when looked at through a 2016 lens.

Coldplay, Radiohead and Foo Fighters are arguably the biggest bands in the world now, so it's hard to tie them to a specific era, but when featured on Daria, Coldplay's first album was less than a year old, Radiohead were trying to shake the dreaded one-hit-wonder tag and Dave Grohl was an ex-drummer struggling to escape his former band's shadow.

Not to mention back in the day I was obsessed with CAKE, another band that defined an era that's sort of fallen to the wayside.

Show was awful.

Beavis and Butthead fans tuned in to see what it was like and tuned right back out. All the males at least.

The only people that watched it were the weird fat girls in school that wore Slipknot shirts and black lipstick.

<DCWhoa> some fantastic blowjobs have been given by weird fat chicks in black lippy and a slipknot tee

Beavis and Butthead would make fantastic sherdoggers.

I agree, I watched the original run when it aired. My girlfriend was big into it and got me into it as well, we were 15 through 20 years old and it was relatable.

I just don't see it being anything other than unbearably preachy in 2018, though. Ripe with all the tumblr buzzwords.

But I'll check it out in hopes I'm wrong.

Yeah I hear you about it. I'm a bit worried, I hope they don't ruin a classic with some bullshit. Granted while SJW buzzwords are annoying as fuck to us, for people 15-20 it makes sense if they do go that route. We're just getting old and our angst has turned into shoulder shrugs.

Yes!!!!!!

I'd binge watch it on Hulu.

I hope it's still successful in this era as it was in the 90s.

just bring back a show that is a mash up of recess, pepper ann and doug.
