Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (20-4 MMA, 10-1 BMMA) will look for the third consecutive defense of his title later this year when he meets Darrion Caldwell (10-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA).

Bellator officials today announced the bout will headline an Oct. 6 event, expected to serve as Bellator 184, at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla.

Dantas currently sits at No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA bantamweight rankings, while Caldwell checks in at No. 15.

Additionally, featherweight Emmanuel Sanchez meets former champ Daniel Straus in a featherweight affair.

Dantas enters the fight on a four-fight win streak that includes decision wins over Leandro Higo, Joe Warren, Marcos Galvao and Mike Richman. He now meets Caldwell, who in July suffered the lone loss to date of his professional career to Joe Taimanglo but in December avenged that result.

Good stuff. Dantas/Caldwell is a good fight. So is Sanchez/Straus, big step up for Sanchez.

Sounds like Curran vs Macapa is also gonna be on this card.

Crazy. Initially I thought Caldwell was the uncrowned champ. His wrestling is on another level. Then he lost to baby joe, and took the loss back. The funny thing is that I actually favor dantas not because of Caldwell's loss to baby joe, but because of the second fight with him, where he won. Caldwell simply doesn't like to get hit. He looked scared and spammed td in the second fight against baby joe.

Dantas is solid all around. If Caldwell can get the fight down early, he is at a huge disadvantage standing. Aside from his kicks, he doesn't have a whole lot standing.

Huge step up for Sanchez. Straus might take this. Too much wrestling, straight left is too crisp

My picks on this long awaited fight.
Caldwell
Straus
Curran
Can't wait on this. Dantas is not fighting an old slow guy this time.

With Warren winning does Bellator pull the trigger with Gallagher in Nov or no?

Could do Mayday, Warren or Higo but who knows.

Jason Floyd says Gallagher has one fight left on his deal and has same manager as Conor, is close with him so maybe he does test market to see what UFC says.

Could mean Bellator doesnt give him a name like that for a few reasons.

1st give him another winnable fight in his country, keeps him unbeaten if you do resign him.

2nd you dont want him to beat one of your top guys on his way out the door.

3rd right now I dont know if UFC really does go after him heavy but if he beat a top guy with a name that could get UFC to say maybe we should go after him.

I think next contract after this is when UFC would go after him, same with MVP. Once you've proven yourself by beating some top guys, maybe winning a Bellator belt. Right now I dont that UFC would offer a big enough contract that Bellator wouldnt match based on what Gallaghers done. He's starting to get a little following, not sure how big he really is in Ireland. But he's beaten nobody so far so how much are you really gonna pay him if you are UFC right now?

I expect him to stay in Bellator. We'll see who they match him with. Will it be Higo or Warren or will it be LC Davis, Baby Joe or someone even lower than that?

I think Warren vs Gallagher is the fight to make. But they don't sleep for a week leading up to it because Warren could derail it OR he could be the perfect showpiece fight.

Only way they make this fight is if James wants to test free agency. Coker is probably still have cold sweats at night because of the pico fight.

No way he is setting up Gallagher vs Warren if James re-signs

I say Gallagher v Joe tam. Perfect test

Exactly my thoughts
Caldwell's striking and even TD attempts looked bad in that win
OTOH Dudu TDD looked great in Warren's fight

Dudu via hit and run and with some luck high kick KO in later rounds

yeah, he was very passive striking.

I hope the odds favor dudu . Caldwell has not been an underdog since he got in the game. When dudu feels those large hands on him he may freakout. As for the striking game TheWolf has a note worthy knockout as well as great standup. He was aware JT was gonna be throwing haymakers for the lucky shot. He's a smart fighter that has taken little to no damage. I don't think he should start bangin to empress some of there posters. I can say I believe he not only wins this but he demolishes dudu. Dudu has been fighting slow older fighters and he was able to keep his distance to avoid TDs. Warren is a good fighter but has been stiff lately. So is galvo. Dudu looses the belt this time. His last fight against higo was messy/slopy and he displayed no power.
Straus is back also against a hard hitting slick Sanchez this one will also be a great come back fight for DS. Both guys look ready for each other. Can't wait for this one.

Awesome fights. Caldwell and Dantas will be a good one. Sanchez is so very average but keeps finding a way to get wins. Straus needs to stick away from the belt for a bit. Don't need Pitbull vs Straus 20.
