Got curious, so I checked the net worth of the following people with web-based news or commentary. Pretty damn high net worth for these people. I thought the big money was in MSM and these alternative sources didn't have the same financial incentive to say what the audience wants to hear.

Cenk Uyger(Young Turks)- $3.5M
Ana Kasparian(Young Turks)-$2M
Alex Jones(Info Wars)-$8M
Ben Shapiro(Daily Wire)-$5M
Ezra Klein(Vox)-$3.7M
Ariana Huffington(Huffington Post)-$50M
Shane Smith(Vice)- fucking $400M

well if they own their site and the site is of significant size, then theyre going to have a few million at least

alex jones gets like 40 million viewers/listeners a week, and slangs those waterfilters to conspiracy theorists, im surprised he isnt worth more

Fedorable(Sherdog) -$4.4m

The Young Turks have to be funded behind the scenes. Their AJ Jazeera+ partnership is dubious and makes your thing they're getting Arab money. Which is why Cenk REALLY flipped out when Alex Jones said "Saudi money."

Because even if their channel is getting 75 million views a month. Youtube doesn't pay THAT much to warrant and entire studio and staff while they're still raking in $5.5 million a year in pay just for Ana and Cenk. I'm sure the other guys there are making plenty of money too, or they'd start their own shows.

Their funding drives are quite successful.
Not sure if you've looked into how much money people manage to raise via crowd funding, but it's a staggering amount.
In certain areas it even well exceeds what would previously been raised via commercialisation.
Of course TYT recently shifted to using the explicitly politicial, left-wing crowdfunding platform. ActBlue.
