For each of the following divisions, which group do you personally PREFER? Not who is better but who is closer to your heart of hearts.

HW: Stipe, Werdum, Cain, JDS, Overeem, Rothwell VS Fedor, Nog, Crocop, Barnett, Couture, Arlovski

LHW: Jones, DC, Rumble (recently retired but hell), Gus, Glover, Manuwa VS Shogun, Wand, Chuck, Rampage, Arona, Tito

MW: Bisping, Romero, Rockhold, Whittaker, Jacare, Mousasi VS Anderson, Hendo, Rich, Vitor, Chael, Okami

WW: Woodley, Wonderboy, Maia, Lawler, Condit, Masvidal VS GSP, Shields, Fitch, Diaz, Hughes, Hendricks

LW: Conor, Khabib, Tony, Alvarez, Barboza, Nate VS BJ, Gomi, Florian, Sherk, Frankie, Bendo

WBW: Nunes, Shevchenko, Pena, Pennington, Holm, McMann vs Ronda, Tate, Zingano, Kaufman, Davis, Coenen

Some of the lines are kind of blurred but of those groups which do you prefer, the current elite or the nostalgia kings/queens?

I wonder how top UFC WW like Woodley and Maia would do against a has-been WW like Rory McDonald.
I wonder if Rory could hang with these guys who have evolved beyond belief.

well TS asked what generation you prefer, not what is better or more talented etc. I can see how in theory BJ could cause problems with his guard and his boxing, but nah. Khabib mauls both.

I guess I'm kinda in the midldle. I like some of the old fighters, but I'm definitely not necessarily rooting for them or being nostalgic or thinking they were THE SHIT just for the sake of nostalgia. It's like music; I like the Beatles, but it's not that I prefer them vs, say, Grimes. Or the other way round.

    LOL

Lawler, Masvidal, and Condit could all be considered on the flip side you have GSP on as well.

Eddie Alvarez was also recking shit in DREAM at the time BJ was champ.

Is it more that you're a big fan of current fighters in those divisions or don't like the older ones much? If the former it would be like me with DC, Rumble and Glover, 3 cuties... no homo.

from the list you made I like the older ones in the heavier divisions as they were pride era and pride was fucking nuts. current WBW, LW, WW are much more exciting than they used to be.

    Where is

    on your list?

Once upon time he was the most feared man on the planet. If he were in prime today he would definitely hold the strap.

LHW and MW I think get a little screwy in that a lot of guys who fought at 205 in the past would probably cut to 185 if they started now, Shogun, Rashad and Machida most obviously.

Generally though I think back in the mid 00's HW, LHW and LW were the most developed divisions where as MW and WW suffered from a relative lack of investment and took awhile to catchup. MW was also quite disorganised, we never really had a single division with most of the best guys in it until after the Strikeforce buyout.

You could argue he's really more the era before, obviously Tom wouldn't matchup well with Werdum but I would like to see someone like him at HW today where a lot of fighters wrestling doesn't actually get tested much.

HW and WW have the least amount of change, progression, as most of those are either still fighting and doing fairly well or the past divisions have all-timers, which are less affected by evolution. The common denominator in each division is increased athleticism and size, which is a big deal in fighting when all things are close to equal. This especially shows at LW, MW and LHW.
