A pretty good demonstration of his decline, you didn't see Fedor going into Wanderlei style crazy hook mode during his winning run yet he did many times in this fight.

As far as Cormier goes there somewhat similar being grapplers with good boxing, I think DC's wrestling is probably a bit better than even prime Fedor and he obviously takes fewer risks but he's also slower without the same defence standing nore nearly as dangerous on the ground in terms of both GnP and subs.
 
They get compared a lot because they have similar bodies, and they're both phenomenal, but that's about where it ends. DC is a much better wrestler, and Fedor was far more well versed in BJJ. Fedor was also a much more wild striker. DC is much more risk averse.

The only similarity is that they Are fat And bald. Fedor is a multiple world champion in combat Sambo, and a submission specialist. One of the best submission specialists ever in mma. DC is a brown belt in BJJ, And first And foremost a wrestler. Fedor would not just fight to hold a fighter down And coast a decision. He would constantly go for submissions. They fight very different.

Fedor was so much better. Faster, stronger, and wicked fucking armbars. He wasn't much on doubles or singles like DC, but his throws were savage.

We all must come to terms that he's on a steep decline, but when Fedor was on he was unstoppable
 
Fedor was the #1 Heavyweight for 10 years.

Cormier never beat a ranked top 5 heavyweight,and has 3 ranked wins at Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight.

What are we talking about?

DC had been fighting for about 2 years at that point and nearly all of his opponents were cans versus Fedor's previous decade plus of wars against mostly the best competition in the world. Not even a fair comparison.
 
Fedor changed into a brawler. No grappling, just slug it out. He lost his fighting IQ in his later days totally.
 
Fedor has more power, more awkward/diverse striking and a much more dangerous submission game.

Cormier has better wrestling, better control and more technical boxing.

I don't see too many similarities between the two actually.
 
DC is better MMA fighter than Fedor but he has different style. DC has strong clich, elbows, cage work. Fedor has nothing in cage (sadly).

sadly therese no time machine, so they both could fight in their prime. anyway ... lesnar (modern camp) vs fedor (modern camp) would be far more interesting
