Define big numbers. Take the battle of Britain for example. Despite being our closest neighbours, 10 pilots. Poland by compassion 145. 32 all the way from Australia. The song 'Foggy Dew' literally encourages the Irish not to fight in WW1 and many who did were spat on and had to hide their medals on their return home.

History says Ireland were neutral durng WW2 but reality is, it was a country split and the overwhelming majority were on the Nazi side and even helped them.
About 120,000 70,000 men the Republic and 50, 000 from the North both sides of the divide. 120,000 men was a big help for the British side. Poland was conquered so all their pilots fled the country.
WW1 was a lot higher over 200,000 thousand and 49,000 of them died.
That's false the numbers would be less than 50 who joined the Nazis to fight against the UK.
