Conor McGregor 'to address US Congress in rights campaign for MMA fighters'

He's the GOAT for a reason. Haters just don't seem to realize being "great" has to do with so much more than winning fights.

That is true!

Ricardo Lopez was the greatest technical boxer ever who had legit power and for that, he retired undefeated with 51-0-1 record. Yet he never truly reached pop icon status like Ali/Tyson. He was too quite which is fine, he could have created an air of interest about him with some mystery fighter type gimmick.

In reality, you need to have some type of shtick. After all, people don't want to just see fighters win, they want to see a winning personality.

Marketing reigns supreme!

While an important subject for MMA , wonder how this is a priority verses other issues for US congress?

Also, is Conor getting input from other fighters? Why just Conor? Conor is not even a US citizen. Yeah, I get that Conor is most famous currently and somewhat unique with his boxing side gig.

This might get interesting, especially if CTE and PEDs come up.

Guess the UFC is screwing him out if sone cash. Whatever, its good for fighters so I have no issue with it.

Good for the fighters bad for WME's loan repayment.

I don't understand the hate Conner gets on here. Has a red hot go, knocks people out and has broken the mould that fighters felt they needed to stay within for pay.

They're jealous. Same reason all kinds of celebrities get virgin dorks hating on them.

He's not going to do a damned thing, and if he does it won't change jack shit.

Top level matches happen because of top level fighters....

With the Ali Act, Askren fights the UFC champ....

It basically makes the best fight the best, except more of the money goes to the athletes.

They will be incentivized to make high-level fights for fan interest and bigger paydays....

No, they won't. They'll be incentivized to fight for whatever paydays are offered by the organization most desperate to book them. Nothing about that guarantees great matchups.

Paydays are at the mercy of the fans.

Discerning fans will pay for matches with ranking implications.

The only difference in this model is that the fighters are more open for bidding, so the actual value of their labor gets rewarded instead of one company having long-term contracts with match-making authority...

Damn good on Conor as fun as it is to hate the guy he's a damn smart dude

I'll be a Conor fan if he pushes this.

Edit: Weird that he was apologising to DFW in the locker room after the Mayweather fight and then this. Not knocking anyone but weird.

He was also telling aldo straight after the fight that theyd do a rematch. Hes faker than jon jones. Jon jones gets in so much trouble because hes terrible at being fake, conor is next level fake

It will mean nothing and this will change nothing. Good intention by Conor maybe but this will change absolutely nothing.

If he really wants to change the status of fighters he should start a union.
