COMPETITION LOG - 2017 S&C Deadlift Comp

I had always wanted to try it because my body is ready for volume, but I've never had the right equipment and time.

Time is definitely an issue, but all you need for equipment is a squat rack and bench.

i feel ok today, stiff. maybe another week

Coan-Phillipi Deadlift Routine Week 4

Top Set
205kg x 1 - 2nd rep failed just below knees

Speed deadlifts
170kg x 5 sets of 3 reps. 90 seconds rest between sets.

Notes.
Weight drops back down to 180kg for week 5, then 195kg for week 6 and then back up to 205kg for 2 on week 7, so I will re-attempt this then.

If week 7 doesn't go to plan then I will adjust my desired max to something a little more realistic for me at this moment.

Either way, glad to be lifting over 200kg again.

Coan-Philipi looked ridiculous. I opted for a more gradual approach myself.

To be honest, I was quite surprised I even managed 1 rep at 205kg today. I may have been a bit aggressive with my desired max, but will tweak it if required in a couple of weeks,

Monday

Deadlift (sumo)
405x1 x6 (last two sets conventional)
405x5 x3

Bench
205x8
215x8

Pull-ups

Worked up to some singles to train my hook-grip. The grip feels fantastic for sumo, much better than mixed does. Also decided to try a couple conventional pulls with hookgrip for the first time in maybe 4 years. Felt weird. No belt. Some reps in with straps.

Today

Deadlift (sumo)
Up to 455x1
405x5 x2

Bench
225x3 x2
205x6

Pull-ups

Worked up to a heavy single with hook grip, backed off with straps. Learning hook grip again, feels okay-ish. Done beltless. Sumo has felt pretty good without a belt lately.

Bench Press:
95x5
115x4
132.5x3
152.5x2x5

Deadlift Up to Knees:
145x3
172.5x3
200x3
215x2x4

Notes: Widened my bench grip out one finger width to max width and it actually felt pretty good. I'll keep playing around with it. First time ever doing this deadlift exercise. You literally just pull the bar to your knees, pause, and put it back down. Interesting. Did some lat and ab work after. I'm liking this program. Very short, meaningful workouts. I'll likely have to move to the medium load, eventually. I could see the volume in this one not being enough, after a while.

Finished first week of sheiko advanced medium load with some deficits deads and some block pulls.

Deficit deads
1x3 130kg
4x2 155kg

Block pull ( should be just below knee but was more like mid shin)
1x3 140kg
1x3 165kg
2x3 190kg
3x2 215kg

I have done blocked pulls before but these felt really hard. Not sure if it was the height I was pulling from, fatigue from starting sheiko or both.

205kg / 451lb Deadlift PR.
+5kg improvement for the
blue team.
