I think its near concensus that top-4 current LHW are (assuming Rumble is still in the game):

    1. Jones
    gap 1
    2. DC
    gap 2
    3. Gus/ Rumble

    Two questions:

    1. Which gap is bigger - gar 1 or gap 2?
    2. Who is better currently- Gus or Rumble?

I'm not sure the gap thing is fair, given that there are stylistic matchups. Gus gave Jon the fight of his life, but got smashed by Rumble and beat by DC. DC choked out Rumble and out-hustled Gus, but Jon is a bad matchup, and either Gus or Rumble may well have a better shot at Jon than him.

In terms of overall ability, I think your list is about right though.

He is. Has made numerous comments though, that would lead one to believe he maybe isn't fully retired.

Why? I don't think he's a bad match up as such, other than simply being the better fighter. If reach/height is the concern, Gus would be an equally bad match up. As would a few of the hw's he's defeated.

Jon's elite clinchwork nullifies DC's main tool, and his reach advantage means that DC's only remaining option of trading on the feet at range is intrinsically unfair.

DC did great dirty boxing against Gus, who has inferior clinchwork.

However, at range Gus is a bit better than Jones, which is why he gave him hell.

Nobody has been able to stuff DC's takedown attempts like Jones has, regardless of weight class. DC was faster and stronger at HW, as well.

But that simply means Jones is the better fighter. I probably mistook you saying "Jones is a bad matchup" as trying to play the old reach/height-card.

Well, Jon is the better fighter in all likelihood. However, I don't think there's all that much in it, and the fact that Jon's style counters DC's very well is what makes the largest difference. In my opinion, the Gus - Jones fight could have been easily scored either way, and that's also stylistic, because Gus is strong where Jon is weakest.

I think the gap is biggest between Jones and the rest.

There are stylistic matchups that affect how they all do against each other. But overall Jones is ahead of the pack. I wouldn't necessarily even say DC is ahead of Gus and Rumble. DC is Jones' easiest fight of the 4. And the Gus/DC fight was razor thin.

    Can't wait to see Jones/Gus 2

using his reach is a part of his strategy - nothing new that most people are either too dumb or lazy to use any of their advantages :D for example brock lesnar lol -> he had the strength and even kurt said, that brock could have been an olympic level wrestler, if he did more for his technique. or struve ... this guy is lazy as fuck lol

imo cormiers biggest issue is :D he is like a "punching bag" ... this maybe worked well when he was young, but this will not work for most guys in his age.

DC had the chin, grit and heart to get up from that usually game-ending strike and win the fight. He also ate bombs and flush headkicks from Rumble and kept going, and the same cannot be said for Gus. He remained standing from a vicious headkick from Jones right across his temple, and only went out after being tripped and hit by a dozen brutal full-leverage consecutive strikes.

Not sure why being tough in the face of adversity is a strike against the guy. With Roy gone, I'd put DC on the short list with guys like Rothwell as the toughest guys in the UFC.
