Nah, I think it's because he wants to have them fill the silence by saying something they perhaps didn't want to say. Psychological interviewing...searching for a good sound bite. It's almost like Ariel's saying "That's it?" when he doesn't respond and people feel like they have to go a step further. He did it with Paulie interview re: Conor sparring as well...it's a good technique.
