Chael Sonnen is one of the most underrated fighters of all time

Chael Sonnen was completely mediocre before he started juicing and was Jeremy Horn's personal punching bag/grappling dummy.

After he starting juicing his one ball off, he racked up a few good wins and then some wins over shot fighters. So in other words no, he's not underrated at all LOL

Subbing shogun was a feat of its own. I didn’t think he’d win.

It’s easy and funny to bash on good ol’ Uncle Chael but he is one the most underrated fighters of all time.

He should have been WEC MW Champion when he beat MW champ Paulo Filho (even though he missed weight).

He has wins over prime Mardqaurdt, prime Okami, prime Ping, Shogun, Wand, and Rampage.

Prime Sonnen would have been UFC MW champ if Anderson didn’t exist. Now he’s about to fight the other GOAT Fedor.

Nah, he failed to win that ifc tourney with shogun, babalu and forest, failed to win any of his fights in Japan, had a losing first run in the ufc, bottled it against Filho, then decisioned Miller, Okami and Nate to a title shot, purely because Silva had cleaned out the rest of the division.

He's now juiced up and going 0.50 against retirees and cripples who long stopped their juice.

He's rated about right.

Also, agree that you're a secret silva basher.

Underachiever imo, he will go in the list of guys like Riggs, Uriah Hall, Nelson, Sokodjou etc.

I still considering him a great fighter though and one of the athletes to represent wrestling. Not many people have power doubles like he does these days...very relentless fighter.

Chael taking scissors to computer cords on The Apprentice was fucking great...just saying. He was a good fighter too.

one dimensional fighter who pissed hot for steroids multiple times

he's ranked about right where he should be

Jeremy Horn owns Chael's soul.

washed up old and fragile Tito mopped the floor with him and made it look easy.......

Chael absolutely deserves a spot in the MMA hall of fame. Regardless of how you rate his skills, he’s one of the most significant figures in the history of the sport. He set the template for self-promotion and became the first fighter to be offered a consistent platform on the major sporting networks. People confuse the requisite qualities for an MMA ambassador and assume honor and respect to be necessary attributes. They’re not. The most damning preconception about MMA fighters is that they’re uneducated tattooed malcontents incapable of stringing sentences together. Chael is a clean cut, highly articulate, former college athlete with comedic timing to boot. It’s much better to have Chael talking shit and dropping one liners than Chuck and his dilated pupils and head tatts mumbling something about respect and giving it 110% before dozing off.

Hell, why do you think they gave Bisping an analyst job? It certainly has zero to do with the respect he displays. However, he can communicate an idea and speak off the cuff without sounding like a complete moron.

I don't understand the "Chael talked himself into a title shot," narrative that gets repeated often on here. Dominant wins over prime Marquardt and Okami should have gotten anyone a title shot back then, especially with how shallow the MW division was at one point.

In his prime, a very good fighter with a skill set (and a testosterone count) that was a nightmare for other top MWs.

If he wins the Bellator tourney he is GOAT.

Don't forget he has the largest arms in West Linn Oregon.

He is pretty much a classic "Hall of Good" fighter, but obviously not "Hall of Fame" level.

A guy who has a handful of "good to very good" wins, but generally failed at the elite level of competition.

His wins over Shogun/Rampage/Wanderlei are very nice provided you understand those guys weren't in their prime, or even near their prime when he beat them. Of course, Chael being past his prime as well evens that out a little bit.
