Canelo vs Lemieux in talks

Golovkin will beat the piss out of Chavez if that happens.

Whats this Im reading about GGG vs Chavez Jr?

This is actually a risky fight for GGG considering Chavez size.

Just a larger surface area to hit. Golovkin would stop Chavez Jr. in little time. Andre Ward was offered a 50/50 split at 164 to fight Golovkin. Instead, he waited until the Lemieux fight was inked and announced (for Gennady to unify with Lemieux's IBF MW title) to make an offer to fight Golovkin. That's convenient, and it tells you a lot about how dangerous (not to mention skilled) Golovkin is.

We Will find out . Not liking how his promotor is handling his career

This is absolute bullshit.

Ward was down for 168, and vocally. They never made a single peep. Ward says hes going to 175 permanently. Then, well after the catch weight intro with Smith, Golovkins handlers say they want a fight with Ward at 164.

Ward would not even take a VERY fair and generous 164 catch for a 50/50 split offer, so why should Triple G have to go all the way up to 168 to fight the guy (who is the B-side) when he's on the verge of breaking Hopkins' Middleweight title defense record and unifying the division to become the undisputed champ? You should know how this works. Triple G said he'd fight anyone from 154-168, but wanted Ward lower. It's business. Ward can't draw flies anyway. At least Triple G is selling out the Garden and every venue he goes to and is the A-side, yet still willing to do 50/50 with the guy. Triple G's first PPV bombed but he's still the most popular fighter next to Canelo nowadays.

Remember, at their HBO meeting, Golovkin said that he was ready to fight Ward and Ward wasn't ready. Here's a recap from Golovkin himself. From June of last year.

"At our meeting with HBO they asked both of us whether or not we are ready to fight. You remember our answers........I said 'yes' and you said 'no.' Something about your shoulder or promoter. I am not interested in your reasons, I only heard your 'no.' But you remember HBO made it clear back then that this fight needs a lot of time to build up. Then why are you talking sh*t about excuses?"

Get Ward to come out of his shell (fighting in his own backyard all the damn time) first and then say that's bs. The guy has fought 90% of his pro career in his own home state (Cali) and last 4 out of 5 fights in Cali, 3 of which were in his own backyard of Oakland.

Ward told HBO "No" and it was on more than one occasion IIRC. Ward only made an offer to fight Golovkin last after the Lemieux fight was already inked and announced. Loeffler has the email. It came in hours later. Figures. Convenient much? Not only the Lemieux fight but for Triple G to fight the winner of Cotto-Canelo. Ward was caught lying and you ate it up with his "Little G turned us down" shit. Of course he did, he already had a fight signed with Lemieux to collect a strap and fight the winner of Cotto-Canelo for yet another strap.

Ward fans are hilarious. On par with Floyd fans. Not to mention Ward never really moved up, he just didn't have to cut as much to fight at 172, since he was a huge Super Middleweight to begin with and cut a lot. He belongs at 175 and fought Smith only 4 pounds heavier. But he couldn't do a 164 catch (4 pounds lighter) for 50/50 with Triple G (the A-side and much smaller guy)? LOL. Ward had been inactive, he's always injured, pulling and shit, it got old quick. Still waiting to hear who his next opponent is before he fights Kovalev, likely Cleverly but Skoglund and Brand (again) are also possibilities. Kovalev is fighting Chilemba next. I wouldn't hold my breath since Ward could find a way to bail out on the Kovalev fight entirely, if not delay it indefinitely, saying he needs more tuneups etc. Roc Nation will be pissed and it wouldn't be the first time Ward's had serious legal issues with his promoter (Goosen, RIP).

Kovalev is waiting on Ward still. Sergey is a very patient man though.

I don't have the details of any negotiations but Ward is a guy that likes to dictate the contract. I'm sure back then he would have taken the fight at 168, but how about at 164, and what was the split he was offering. GGG is in a tough spot in regards to quality opponents but shouldn't accept a bad deal with Canelo or Ward. As we saw with Mayweather and Manny, at the end of the day what matters most is who wins the fight, regardless of the circumstances (weight, injury or whatever concession). Ward should be at 175 a while though. Once GGG moves up maybe they'll negotiate a catchweight bout.

Even with the layoff I'm not sure Ward would be the b side. If he gets past Kovalev he'll be right back on top though. Maybe even PFP. I don't want to see that fight though with Ward having a big weight advantage. We'll see how things develop over the next two years.

Ward doesnt cut much weight. Never has, never will.

Ward didnt call for Golovkin. GGG's handlers are the ones who started all this shit up. If they wanted to fight him it was going to be 168 and everyone already knew that. All it was was GGG's handlers talking shit to drum up interest in their guy.

Golovkins the most popular fighter outside of Canelo? According to what? Hes more popular than Cotto, Pac, Klits? News to me.

Youre talking from your ass on this situation. Dont care if you believe it or not but youre just being spoon fed bullshit that Loeffler claimed. Just like "they never heard anything from Danny".

Lastly, its amusing youre trying to pretend as if Kovalev is being ducked or some shit by Ward. He moved up. They made the deal. The deal is in place and is unfolding according to plan. Kovalev's handlers are happy with it. But sure, tell us more.

Thats not how it went at all.

Ward would have fought at 168 and getting a deal done wouldnt have been an issue at all. Hes getting paid big $ regardless.

164 was a crock of shit smoke screen because they knew him coming down was never going to be in play. Makes their guy look good mentioning big names. Thats it.

Yeah, I mostly agree. GGG is up there though. He's one of the better known and has a lot of potential. Let's see how he stacks up once the big fights get made.

But if you think about it, you just said he doesn't cut much weight. He could have fought at 164 but he likes being in charge and getting all the concessions. I think he's a great fighter BTW.

tbh I doubt any one on here knows how it went. Most likely somewhere in middle. Lame move imo of GGG to ask for 164

Its not a matter of a concession. Its a matter of a guy doesnt want to put his body through cutting weight.

Yes, you're right, but it's a halfway point. One guy doesn't want to cut weight and the other guy doesn't want to give up weight to his opponent. Meeting in the middle is fair. Canelo wants the fight but basically at JMW, Jacobs wants the fight but at SMW, yet they were both just recently title holders at MW. Seems like GGG still gets most of the blame when those negotiations fall through.

Its not an unreasonable catchweight at all. But one of them doesnt cut weight and wont cut weight, and thats well documented.

Havent seen a single person defend the 155 for the title, and it sounds like that isnt an issue anymore as they said theyll do it at 160. As far as Danny, no ones really seemed bother on these boards by that either. Ill never have an issue with a fighter not going up or not going down in weight. Dannys having big problems with the cut so he'll be leaving the division as he should. Got no issue with them not wanting the fight at 168.

I believe today is the day GGG and Canelos handlers were supposed to get back to business after being out of country and/or handling their legal stuff. Hopefully theyll get something going ASAP.

Didn't he offer to meet Floyd at 160?

Didn't he offer to meet Floyd at 160?

Jacobs is willing to fight Canelo at 160, but not Golovkin. Ward is willing to fight Floyd at 160, but not Golovkin. Golovkin will go to 168 to fight Chavez, but not Jacobs. Mayweather will go to 154 to fight Oscar, but not Canelo.

Everybody has to weigh risk/reward when leaving their weight class. That is normal, and people should stop being so biased about who they attack for doing so.

However, not everybody is willing to fight everyone in their weight class. Golovkin is, and he should be applauded for that. It's actually pretty rare.

I wasn't attacking Ward for not cutting weight. PUO mentioned Ward doesn't cut weight but I could've sworn I remembered him saying he would for Floyd. I suppose the idea that you'd leave your weight class to fight one guy but not another at the same catch weight seems hypocritical so I see where some criticism comes from. But reality is money talks. Floyd's probably worth cutting to 160 for. Like the risk/reward you said. Risk is being a shadow of yourself after having to cut 8 extra pounds. Reward is millions of dollars win or lose.

I agree with you that people need to pick a side of the fence and stand on it though.
