Who knows when DC will come back to LHW. It's questionable if he ever will. An interim LHW situation will emerge, and Gus is way better than what's left at 205.

Also, I think Jones is the only fight that DC would come back to 205 for.

I like to go against the grain, so I'll disagree.

No. Champions are not crowned by agreement.
At least, they didn't used to be...

The only guys who beat him aren't in the UFC's LHW division anymore, so sure, why not.

There’s no excuse for him not to be champ by the end of this year

I dunno man. look at his fight record. He has fought 8 times in the last 6 years. It is hard to get a real good gauge on him. The Jones fight was a hell of a fight, but that was in 2013...

Yes possibly. I mean lhw lacks depth. Maybe they should merge mw and lhw. Remember guys like mousasi beat illir who is top 5 at lhw. I know that was a depleted illir who fought onnshort notice but mousasi simply outclassed him everywhere. Dint even get touched the whole fight. Romero would easily destroy all lhw's. I like his chances against gus honestly. I truly believe romero can beat him. Whittaker i am not sure about. Weidman would do well too. He has size. Rockhold would be top 5. Gas is a bit too small but you can never count out that guy. He has an iron chin. As long as he doesnt face huge wrestlers, he can finish anyone. Guys like santos are huge. Jacare walks around at 210.

I think I agree. Gus kind of got derailed when AJ KO'd him. As much as AJ is a beast, I did feel like that was a bit of a lucky KO. Gustafsson beats Anthony Johnson 10/10 times if the fight goes past the 1st round. Other than that, he's lost decisions to DC and Jon Jones, probably the best two light heavyweights ever.

I predict that DC will win the heavyweight title, and won't return to LHW before retirement. In that case, I see 'The Mauler' winning the vacant LHW gold.

Gus is the king of dropping the ball at the big moment, whether it be getting ceremoniously KO'd in a record breaking attendance show in his home town, after the whole of Stockholm stayed up until 4AM, or losing the big rounds that he needed to win versus Cormier or Jones late in the fight. To think that the UFC has seen four different European champions since he fought Jones, when everyone was sure he would be the first Euro champ, shows you what a catastrophic failure his career has recently been. Fuck, even Bisping was a UFC champ before him!!! WTF?!

All true. But with Rumble, Jones, and DC gone, who beats him?

I honestly think Anthony Johnson will be back, as well as Jon Jones.

If both those guys come back then I don't think Gustafsson will be champion, personally.

That said, if Alex does somehow become champion with DC, Jones and Johnson all absent from the division, then you have to ask yourself how genuine is that belt.
