Can this season's hardcore NBA followers explain to me why Brad Stevens didn't win Coach of the Year

So why are we having a discussion over an illegitimate award?

Cantoni took a team that many preseason prognosticators had missing the yoffs and coached them to 55 wins and the 3rd seed (41 wins and 8th seed last year) out West. Cantoni made the ballsy move to have Hardcan run the point full-time and install a volume 3pt shaating offense built on Hardcan at point that made his Phoenix SSOL teams look prude. That was all Cantoni being the impetus of change and drastic team improvement

Spogoat took a ragtag team of castoffs, has-beens and never-weres, then got destroyed by injuries the first months of the season (Heat had like 9000 different starting lineups by January). Team got into a 11-30 hole before Spogoat coached them to 41-41. 30-11 the second half of the season, 60-win pace team top 5 in both offense and defense. Those 41 games weren't exactly a small sample-size either, it's literally half a season. And that record wasn't built on weak competition, Heat had wins over: Bucks, Bucks, Warriors, Bulls, Hawks, Bucks, Rockets, Hawks, Pacers, Cavs, Cavs, Raptors, Wizards, Cavs, Wizards -- 15 wins vs yoff teams, overall they were 15-5 vs 2017 yoff teams in those final 41 games. It was an unprecedented season turnaround never before seen in NBA history, some bullshit tie-breaker with teams resting their players the final night of reg season does nothing to diminish what actually happened in Miami.
