UFC top brass have said that at least some of these 6 additional classes are set to be brought in 'when the time is right'. We have seen a pandemic of weight missing and weight cutting disasters recently and with the amount of competitors and level of competition rising, especially in the middle weight classes, and with more and more fighters having to choose between extreme cutting or continuously fighter significantly larger opponents, there is a strong argument to be made for narrower weight classes. Boxing recently brought in some narrower classes for these reasons.

Just as we were discussing in the 'Cerrone should retire' thread how Cowboy kind of seems to fall between weight classes I thought that it would be a good idea to make this clear and explicit for everyone.

More weight classes won't fix shit. You think adding 165 would make some big 155ers move up, but in reality it'll make a bunch of small 170ers cut the 5 extra lbs and move down instead of move up to 175lbs, because now small MWs like Bobby Knuckles and that undisciplined Mexican whatever his name is would try to shed 10 extra pounds and move down to 175lbs. LHW and HW are thin as hell right now if you split them into 4 weight classes it will just become an even bigger joke.

Obviously there is no need for Welterweight and Super Welterweight, just eliminate 170 and call 175 Welterweight. I also think the addition of a 225 Cruiserweight class should be complimented by bumping the Heavyweight limit up to 285 (in line with the NCCA wrestling limit). Everything else looks great.

These should be introduced simultaneously with new weight cutting regulations in the UFC while they’re at it.

I like the idea of cruiserweight, just not sure when there will be enough talent to actually warrant adding new classes.

fuck that. dont change the original format imo. you either make weight or fight at your weight class. if you cant make 170 yet you are too small for 185 lel then fight at 185. the champion is under 200 lbs himself at mw. anderson silva was 195. no excuses.

John McCarthy told me personally that there is a SHW division in UFC, but they just don't use it. but its in the UFC rules.. they have used it a few times before but not for a long time.. Mark Robinson vs Hoffman, Gan Mcgee vs Schilt and another that i cant remember of now. But they can use it anytime without opening a new division.

Why go 65 & 75 and not 62.5 & 72.5. 5 lbs between divisions isn't enough. It's not boxing.

195 is a division already. It’s called Franklinweight.

Also just no. There is already too many divisions as it is. Sorry Kevin Lee

this right here
until they regulate how much weight a fighter can cut things will always be the same

Josh Barnett vs. Gan McGee is the ONLY super heavyweight fight the UFC has ever put on at UFC 28.

No there is a few.. Mark Robinson vs Bobby Hoffman was one of them.. Robinson was over 300 Ibs

the only change they need is to remove the weight limit on HW.

Just have Welterweight at 175 and ignore than random five pound increment, or just get rid of fly weight and make everything go up from 130.

fuck kevin lee. he is a little bitch that's talks gibberish out of his ass constantly. For someone that's real big, he is afraid of fighting at 170 lel. gtfo. Hope there is no 165. He either kills himself to make 155 or fights at 170 where he has more vitality due to lack of weight cutting issues. Cant stand this self entitled prick as a person. he is a good fighter though.
