That's how i get to work everyday, leathering old grannies for busfares. Nothing wrong with our ways
I think Calvillo is absolutely right. Fighters who are predominantly Muay Thai based always shine if the fighter in front is standing there, flat, and not moving. It wasn't the greatest fight in the world in terms of the stand-up and showed that Calderwood would have 'Octagon control' but anytime Calvilho circled, Calderwood would have to re-set and try inch her way forward.
I thought the 2 30-27's to Calvilho were very generous. And as for American fighters being afraid of it going to the scorecards and favouring it for the hometown fight, Sanchez v Pearson in Albuquerque, anyone?
If that last 30 seconds contains the only time there was anything that looked like a finish might happen, then one could argue that the last 30 seconds of the round was more significant than the previous time where there was no apparent threat of finish (either by KO or submission), don't you think?
She should be, it was a poor decision.
Yeah dude if u read my earlier posts u would find it clear I do not like the Diaz brothers for the same reason as JoJo, bad sportsmanship.
You did see that Calderwood had the reach advantage, didn't you?
JoJo seems like a fighter who just phones it in every time. Nothing about her fights are exciting, doesn't appear like she has any hunger.
She's looked generic at 115. I know she blames the weight cut for a lot of her problems, but I don't see how she finds any more success at 125 against bigger girls and her disinterested fighting style. It's not a muay thai match.
Seems like unless a fighter is committed to throwing vicious kicks with bad intentions, being committed to basic muay thai doesn't take a fighter very far.
Yeah professional judges need to come get lessons from random Sherdoggers who watch the fight on TV with a huge bias towards one fighter or another.
I would agree in a typical close fight, but that fact that Calvilho did everything she could to avoid an exchange for 80% of the fight means I don't on this occasion, JoJo tried to fight, she was the aggressor while her opponent tried and succeeded in avoiding the fight and stealing the rounds with some late takedowns.
I just don't like seeing anti-fighting rewarded.
I honestly have no clue how anyone could score that fight for Calderwood. Not a single judge did and not a single play by play did.
If you can't beat em, join em.
Attempting to do something and doing something are very different, she did no damage at all to JOJO on the ground, an attempted sub should not be scored any higher than
Calderwood needs to spend less time complaining and more time making sure she makes weight.
I can't stand it when a fighter can't even be bothered to meet the most basic requirement of a bout agreement that they signed.
And then to start shit at the weigh in, where she's overweight and and talk shit after losing a close fight.
The fight may not have lived up to its potential but it generated more attention on social media and other sources than most of the fights on the card. Look at this board with multiple posts on this fight.
I am aware. You will have to explain what that has to do with my post.
Sorry, gotta disagree. The only way Calderwood wins is under traditional Thai scoring where punches barely count unless they cause a knockdown. Calderwood had most of her kicks blocked or miss, and none of the ones that landed were hard or clean. She didn't break Calvillo's stance with her kicks, knock her backwards, or snap her head back, there was nothing really damaging. Calvillo on the other hand landed several punches that stopped JoJo in her tracks and snapped her head back, she landed the cleaner harder strikes in the fight.
I might give the 2nd round to JoJo if I were feeling generous, in the 1st & 3rd she was losing even without the takedowns. Weak kicks to the legs & body for no damage are outweighed by clean hard punches to the face that knock the head back and cause visible damage.
She needed to pull a James Thompson. Win or get knocked out
I missed out on the fights. What did Calderwood do?
It's so lame to accuse your opponent of running away, after a loss. Predators are supposed to catch and kill their prey.
It's also lame to say "I better not get robbed." If you do more, you don't have to worry about it.
