[Cali]First AR15 build

I went .223 Wylde on the first build. Not sure it's better, but no sense going .223 then having to worry about firing 5.56. The price on this is low enough to make me slightly nervous, but I'm sure it works just fine for most applications.
Edit: 223 wylde will shoot 556... oops

Personally I wouldn't. They used to be MMC and due to poor reputation they made a sister company Bear Creek.

1-8 twist is a good all around, will shoot 45-77gr bullets very well.
Personally wouldn't go featureless or purchase the 1:8 twist?

Don't get standard .223.

.223 wylde is a match chamber, it will have better accuracy with a quality match barrel and match ammo. Cheap brass ammo (pmc, Wolf gold, etc) it won't have any accuracy improvement over 5.56.

5.56 is a slightly larger chamber and it comes with better reliability. Dust, full auto, carbon build up/less cleaning, etc will be more reliable.

For your uses the wylde will be just as reliable.

If you need to go cheaper go with PSA imo. They are made by FN.

Go with that brand barrel.

1:8 is good.

Edit I know nothing about Cali legal stuff so I can't comment on featureless or whatever.

I’m a little late to the party.

Aren’t AR builds with fixed magazines CA legal and exempt from being featureless? If so, why not buy a fixed mag AR and a few Mean Arms loaders?

Optics?:
Sig Sauer SOR52001 Romeo5 1x20mm Compact 2 Moa Red Dot Sight, Black $160.00 - Amazon
or
Vortex Optics SPR-1303 Spitfire 3x Prism Scope with EBR-556B Reticle (MOA), Black $348.90

Probably buying 80% lower here:

I like their body of work and they are close to me to go pickup with cash and not be as much in the "system" so I am probably buying the upper and hand guard as well here.

I could get the Gas block and Barrel there as well but they are a little above in price from what I've seen at other places.

Any advice, feedback or w/e would be cool.

Edit: Why the hell can't we link Amazon on here?

Correct, provided it is semi-auto (rather than automatic/burst) and meets 16" barrel / 30" OAL minimums.
The crux of the issue is whether or not he is making an assault weapon, and the definition is a tree with quite a few branches.

Honestly, I think it boils down to: a) What's more important: pistol grip or 30 round mag?
b) How badly do you want to stay in this shitty state?

I’m surprised more Cali dudes aren’t jumping on this bandwagon now that they seem to have gotten their manufacturing together.

Accepts any mil-spec AR upper, just pop in their BCG. I haven’t shot one yet, but shouldered one in the store. And all video reviews have it being more accurate out the box than a Mini-14.

While I love my Mini-14, even I can admit this set up gives you way more customization options than the Ruger. Dudes have even found ways to modify Remington stocks for wood furniture.

Plus accepting any AR mags vs. proprietary mags makes it more useful.

Not sure if hooking up with Jesse James helps or hurts the brand, lol.

It helps, have you seen some of the 1911s he's built?

He got skills no doubt. It’s that extracurricular attention he sometimes receives.
No one is perfect and since his move to Texas a couple years ago things seems to have settled for him.

When it comes to choose a scope for rifle, I would rather like to invest dollars on Vortex! You know what? Vortex has become one of the most reliable brand on making high-end rifle scopes that are able to deliver more accurate target shooting!
