I haven't seen this technique used before. Could it be implemented in MMA or BJJ?

For the record the GIF is from last weekend's NRL finals. The NRL is the most elite rugby league competition in the world and the players in this league are all trained in forms of grappling. Every club actually has its own grappling coach. They had to ban things like neck crank's, kimura's and general joint manipulation because players were commonly finding ways to implement them in tackles.

I think it only worked because the base of the player being tackled was already compromised - the tackler had forced him to bend at the hips so he did not have good posture.
