I see a fight happening soon with Gonzaga vs Velasquez. I think it would be a very competitive matchup and would definitely test to see if Cain is in the upper echelon of Heavyweights in the UFC. Who do you think would win this bout or is too early for Cain to be fighting Gabe?

    Thoughts?

I don't think it will be that competitive, Cain is about to be the truth, he's a beast, but we'll just have to watch and see. The guy is tough as nails.

I got gonzaga winning this right now.
Give Cain a little more time I say with mid-level HW's (O'Brien isn't that great, but there are worse).

    Who knows though

I like Cain alot but it would be stupid to put him in against Gonzaga this soon in his career, remember he is only 4-0.

Do I think he still could win? YES, but if the UFC are smart they built him up first.

Since both are fighters the UFC is trying to build up I doubt this fight will happen.

But if it did I go with Velasquez, PAC-10 wrestling champion who's clearly shown he can apply those skills to MMA. I wouldn't be surprised if Velasquez was heavyweight champion in a year.

I don't see Cain in this fight at all. Gonzaga is very big and strong, extremely solid on the ground, good striking and way more experienced. Cain has looked good in his fights thus far, but Gonzaga represents the top-tier of the UFC HW division (not saying all that much though), and is a top-10 HW overall (all promotions combined).

The UFC needs to bring up some of the young heavyweights like Carwin & Velasquez slower instead of throwing them to the wolves. This way they can build them.

Velasquez doesn't need to be built, he's at that level now.

He'll beat most people he's put against. If you spend time giving him lesser competition you only hurt someone like him. That's like putting an algebra genius in remedial math classes.

Since the UFC chose to ruin the undefeated records of Machida and SIlva why not have Valasquez and Carwin fight to see who moves on? Both are great prospects with undefeated records.

I think Cain and Carwin would stand a chance with Gonzaga of course but neither has the ground submission game yet so odds are still low.

For some reason I always wanted to see them throw Gonzaga at Brock. But Gonzaga vs. Velasquez is definitely intruiging. Especially since we might get to see Cain on his feet (where I assume Gabe would want to dominate from).

Give it another fight or 2 then I think this would be a great match up. Gonzaga is a tough dude and Cain is the real deal so I really dont know.

I mean I think it would be a great fight now with Gonzaga having a slight edge, but you never know Valezquez improves every fight and is a serious threat in the future.

I think the comparison between Valasquez/Carwin and Machida/T.Silva is not accurate, as, first, the latter are far more experienced, and, second, they are in a deep division, are not popular, and Dana wants them to go away. The HW division needs new stars like Cain and Carwin. I see, and hope, they get more main card fights, but I see them getting mid level opponents to get them more experience. Maybe some good old wrestler vs. striker matchups against Kongo or Hardonk.

You only have to look at the last 3 opponants of each of these guys to pick a winner... right now, GG would be odds on... 2 or 3 fights time I see this making more sense
