Brian Kelleher: "The UFC should adopt a supplement line that covers all allowed supplements"

Wonder if Dana planted this story. Seems like another way for the UFC to put the squeeze on fighters.

You can only take our supplements! And pay for the privilege.

Honestly, this makes a ton of sense. This way, we know everyone's taking the same supplements and people can't cry tainted supplements when someone tests positive.

they already do.

the "performance inspired" line is part funded by WME, is the UFC official supplement sponsor and hae all their products third party certified by informed-sport to be ped free..

but, these are not the kid of supplements the fighters are taking

PI do your regular creatine, pre workout energy drink, electroytes, post workout shake etc.. those are not the sort of "supplement" causing people to test positive anyway.

If all the fighters stuck to supplements like that contamination wouldnt be an issue

the contaminated supplements are things like testosterone boosters, mass gainers, the "supplements" associated with bodybuilding, NOT "dietary supplements"

Biggest issue with that is, you cannot force an IC to only consume one brand because they are sponsored.
Plus giving free sups to 500+ fighters at a time might not be cost effective for ROI
They can afford it

As I said the ROI might not cover giving 500+ fighters free supplements
It is not like a clothing line where everyone is a potential customer.

Sponsoring an individual is different. They pick & choose who will promote the brand & contractually how.

but none of that matters, since you cannot tell an IC that they have to consume only one thing 365/7/24

UFC is sponsored by BK at times. You cannot tell fighters that they are not allowed to eat McD or KFC (poor Cormier) or only drink Bud Light & no other beer

Who said anything about the UFC forcing guys to take anything or giving it to them for free? Simply have a line of supplements that are guaranteed USADA approved and sell them. Fighters use other supplements at their own risk. If a fighter pisses hot and claims tainted supplements, boom, it's their fault entirely for using non approved supplements.

The word SPONSOR (fighters) does
It was what Kelleher tweeted

That could possibly eliminate that tainted supplement excuse. The tainted supplement excuse is needed to cover for PED use.

or fighters could
  • stop cheating and blaming tainted supplements
  • have their supplements tested before using
  • usual reputable supplements (ones that have been around a long time and aren't made by some fly by night company)
  • eat a well rounded diet and not rely on the placebo effect of supplements (the ones that may actually work are probably the ones from shady companies that purposefully include PEDs (usually the name/title gives hints). Supplements are just a scam anyways so it's best not to take them
  • if you just want protein powder then doesn't walmart or GNC or some other big name equivalent sell them under the store's generic brand. That way if they are actually tainted (lol) then one can sue and not have to worry about the company folding up shop and declaring bankruptcy
Having UFC sponsored/branded supplements reminds me of "company stores" like back in the gold rush days.....not a good thing for many fighters who don't have much money. Or are you saying your want the UFC to give them to fighters for free (even though they aren't needed; don't work)? If so then where is the money for this going to come from (not the executives pockets that's for sure). Should the UFC also then have their own brand of OTC (over the counter) cough medicine, analgesics, creams, allergy/cold meds, etc....the list goes on and on. Fighters just need to learn some personal responsibility.
Not gunna happen bro

Who says they will be free for the fighters ? The UFC is a private company and they should have the right to determine what their fighters put in their bodies.
The fighters are free to not take the supplement, but they are not free (if under contract) to take supplements not approved by the UFC.
Well, they are free to do that, but the UFC is free to not let them fight.

This seems like it would essentially be the Reebok deal but for supplements right? You have to use their supplements (or none I guess) and you will get paid by them but at set amounts.

I think that it does make some sense, but I also think that you can't keep restricting fighters freedoms like that and still calling them independent contractors.

They actually do have a hotline they can call to check anything they want to take with USADA.

To be clear, there have been quite a few supplements with banned stimulants, like geranium oil, but you'd only get a failure with them if you used it just before your fight.

But I'd agree that nobody is failing due to creatine or whey protein.

But doesn't USADA already have a list of clean supps that are being sold in public? USADA just needs a data base and just run the names through a google style search engine.

Fighter are just being careless, and Jon Jones has the money and resources to have someone double check what he puts in his body.

^^ This guy still waitin on the C sample

That was the stool sample. It was rejected due to too many peanuts and corn.

Also, LEL at people saying supplements don't work due to eggheads that are jealous of studs. Loser in a lab coat versus millions of people that use supplements on a daily basis? Go with the real world experience.

yeh, i missed that and should have made that clear.

generally its the pre-workout energy stuff that has risk of containing stimulants, ive seen ephedra in some and like you say geranium oil.

but as far as I know the major brands like Muscle Pharma, SIS, etc avoid putting stimulants in their pre workouts now because they have a lot of sporting clients

Why not make a line of dick pills with every banned substance and branded under a thousand shell companies so that fighters have an excuse when they're busted?
