Troops deployed in several cities, police reportedly being disarmed, bridge over Bosporous blocked off by troops, low flying F-16's and whatnot.

should be interesting if this is a full on coup - the US views Turkey as as a major resource in the fight against ISIS
 
So good thing or bad thing for West? Ergodan was a loose cannon. Military probably tired of him picking fights with Russia, but Turkey is NATO.

And this comes on the heels of Erdogan thinking of withdrawing the bid for EU membership, and getting friendly with Russia and China. Wonder what's going on.
 
Given Military usually works closer with NATO allies than respective governments - I'd guess this is all but supported by "The West".
