Boxing vs MMA

Guys writing that somehow MMA is "The True Combat Sport" while Boxing is "Pillow Fights" are fucking clueless about fighting. They are both combat sports and both have potentially lethal fighters but the quality of the fighter does not always depend on the style -but the fighter himself. Just because an MMA guy trains with kicks, takedowns and BJJ doesnt mean hes got a bigger heart, better instincts, stronger will to live or is gonna survive that barrage of punches on his way for a takedown. Same goes for the Boxer attacking an MMA expert -he may lose.

Im 47yo, been martial arts since 17 (Kenpo < BJJ<Burmese<MT) and just recently got into Western Boxing 4 years ago -i use to say the same shit as the ignorant posters here "Only MMA Bros!". Go join a boxing club for a year and come back and tell me those arent some tough talented, and hard training motherfuckers. Im talkiing real ghetto gym not polished center city "Boxing for Executives" bullshit.

So you think that 300 lb men that run into 300 lb in full speed collisions every day are afraid to get hit?

Yes. It's a team sport and a loss is just another game which you quickly forget because you play again this or next week, + they are all juiced to the gills which gives them confidence and boosts aggression. Hand to hand combat is the most primitive feeling you can experience and it's not just the fatigue, but the fear of you being beaten as a man in front of your friends, family etc., which drains fighters of physical endurance inside the ring/octagon and motivation outside of it. Not everyone is cut out for fighting. Many people are "gym champions" and they indeed have superior fighting technique, speed, strength etc., but they crack under pressure of competition and can't even win against mid-tier competition, and they're beating champions in the gym.

Ofc. Everyone knows that...

If Boxing = tennis

MMA = slap ball

Michael Jordan couldn’t play baseball either.

<BronTroll1>That's because baseball is for elite Athletes, not for some jimbroni's who think sinking a 3 pointer is harder than hitting a 100 mph fastball.

MMA is a great sport with big opportunities but let's be real, it is still a fall back sport for athletes. There are so much more competition in other sports and the pay potential for them is much, much bigger.

Yeah, still as a fan, it kinda bugs me that MMA is still fighting for legitimacy. Like a little kid trying to prove itself to its big brother. We have top MMA fighters wanna match up with boxers but not the other way around.
