BOXERS VS MIXED MARTIAL ARTISTS - WHO PUNCHES HARDER?

Got to love the standing punches vs the run up punches. I mean I've heard of mma fighters hitting as hard as a ford escort... what about an f 1 fiddy?

Why did this get dumped here?

Boxer's tend to generate more power with less wind up, their punches come at different angles and are set up with a different base than the majority of MMA strikers. The energy for a punch really starts in the legs and because there is no kicking or take downs in Boxing, the boxers are most often in position to generate more powerful punches. Also boxers tend to keep their power punches short and crisp with the power coming from the torque from their whole body moving, on average MMA punchers tend to have much longer unrefined striking with less power and torque. Obviously there are a lot of powerful punchers in MMA but on average the boxers generate more power especially with those bigger gloves, more surface area and hand protection.
Ha. Nerd.

I'll sum it up.
Boxers punch harder cuz they're better athletes and boxing is the superior art and superior sport.

It comes down to the individual at the end of the day. But on average of course boxing has more big punchers, because they spend more time on the mechanics involved in throwing one.

Some MMA guys can throw heavy but those same exact MMA guys would ALL be even more powerful if they learned to refine their mechanics through technical study of proper boxing

Boxers in general will punch harder! Better technique and years of perfecting it on the pads and heavy bag. This is why the claim that Connor hit harder than anyone Floyd had faced was fckin laughable nonsense.

These punching machines dont determine shit skinny ass Machine Gun Kelly hit that sucker hard too

in a real fight nobody is going to load up or run with a wind up like Conor did and throw a shot and if they did the fighter would avoid that punch so easy because its telegraphed

real power in a fight is when you can generate a snappy shot from a tight knit guard and short crisp hooks on the chin

you dont need to wind up because almost anyone can hit hard with a wind up shot fully loaded, I bet you a lot of those baseball players could break the record too on single punch on thosemachines.

That's so true. I went on one of those punch power measuring arcade machines, the one where you have to punch the asteroid and it gives you a score in tonnes. I'd been boxing for about 5 years then and was considered to have heavy hands by people at my gym. With good form and no telegraph and just a small step I landed a right hand on the pad and I got a respectable score, I can't remember exactly what it was. And then my brother who's a bit smaller than me and who's never boxed in his life stands about 10 feet back from the machine and sprints full tilt at it throwing a fully wound up right hand all the way from the moon. He beats my score by about 5 tonnes. I was pissed off. I had a few goes after trying to beat his score but I couldn't do it. BUT I also couldn't bring myself to take a run up at the machine because that would just be too much for my brain to accept in terms of boxing technique that I'd spent years working on.

You shouldve smashed your brother in the face and asked "how many points is that?"

LOL I should have done, he deserved it for the smug look he had on his face.

yeah its bullshit, anyone can hit hard if they are putting their entire weight behind it like they are swinging a bat or throwing a fast ball

in boxing people dont do that because it leaves them open for a counter

imagine loading up against someone who is known for fast straight punches down the middle? they would touch your chin before you can land that haymaker

Ever seen that boxer Vic Darchinyan get knocked out by Nonito Donaire? Vic loves to load up with his chin forward he tried to load up to throw a punch and got knocked out with a short crisp step back hook to the face.

Real good power punchers in boxing just throw short shots and can hurt you its all about timing and punch placement with good snap leverage.

Yeah very true. I think one of the hardest times I've ever been hit is by a 17 year old pro prospect who was several stones lighter than me who timed me to perfection as I stepped in with a jab. He noticed my right hand tended to pull back a little so he could sneak in a sharp counter left hook. I walked into that shot and didn't see it coming. It hit so hard my entire face went numb and I had to dab at my nose to check it was still attached to my face. The only good thing was that it broke my nose straighter from previous breaks.

It's hilarious to me that MMA fans actually use an arcade machine to gauge punching power.

i don't think those machines are even close to being accurate and no one will convince me that mma fighters punch anywhere near as hard as the hardest punching boxers, not even in the same realm.

You're the sad little thing crying whenever someone speaks a fact about Conor.

I think Wilder has hardest punch on history.

Arcade boxing machines...... I did give them a try and my score was something like 840 (total is 990 or so). But no running, I gave my girl my beer, talked to my kids to beware. Just stand before it, push your feet little up, turn leg from bottom to top, turn hip, from stomach to shoulder and throw one clean and relative short right straight. I am 164 lbs. Was fun. Because people's around me stepped afterwards a little back with slightly raised eyebrows. Rofl.

On the other hand my experience as a boxer with mma fighters sparring wise is, they don't have the right technique. If they would train more boxing..... 1-2 years or so it would be something else.

Technique = real Power

I remember them doing that machine shit on sportsnation a few years back. Machine Gun Kelly, all 150lbs of him, took a running start and ended up getting the highest score out of anyone iirc. Guys like Cotto and Evander hit it and weren't even scoring very high. It's a stupid way to gauge power. Sounds like a fun time, tho, never hit one but it would be fun to even if it's way off. I know Pat Barry kicked one, don't remember what the score was, probably stupid low compared to how hard he actually booted that thing.

This is down to the individual, its a s simple as that.

There is not some magic pill just because your one or the other, both punch, their power will be based on the individual.

However ....... boxers punch cleaner, quicker, crisper and have better muscle memory for punching and that means something if your going fist to fist, blow for blow.

Yeah if you're going to use an arcade machine to measure "power" you might as well just measure the distance someone can make the heavybag swing.
Because that's not what causes actual damage from a punch at all, it actually indicates somewhat the opposite, which is hard for most people to wrap their head around
