The UFC paid for her to have a tonsillectomy, a common procedure with a recovery time of around a week. That does not conflict with them being frustrated that she wouldn't commit to a date later in the year. The fact they then forced her into a date she didn't want proves that.

10 days to 2 weeks for an adult but whatever. Truth is Helwani didn't even mention the operation, a pretty important part of the story. Either his source didn't mention it, strange if it was someone in the UFC, or he chose to ignore it completely, preferring to go with his GDR "scoop" rather than giving the full story - Never mind how bad that made Nicco look.

Have you seen Nicco's interview on the MMA hour? She says she didn't want to commit to a date and was forced into fighting earlier than she wanted. That's basically exactly what Helwani said. But go ahead and shit on him for doing his job.

It's not like she didn't have a chance to tell her side. According to Helwani he reached out to her and got no response. Or do you think he's lying about that?

This entire mess could've been avoided with better PR from Nicco. She's a perfect example of exactly what not to do. Almost nothing she's said has helped her in the public eye. And that's her fault.

Helwani's tweet comparing Nicco to GDR came 11 weeks before the reports that the fight would be on 228 surfaced.

If Helwani reached out to Nicco, her team or the UFC itself then how come he didn't know she was hospitalized in Vegas?

What you can't explain is why Helwani never mentioned the operation. Either he didn't know - which makes me doubt his sources or how much effort he made to contact Nicco - or he chose not to report it.

Where do you get GDR from? He tweeted that the UFC was getting impatient with her not committing to a fight date. A week prior he had reported they were trying to book her for Calgary. 11 weeks makes perfect sense to go from being impatient to "accept this fight or we're stripping you."

Funny, he doesn't seem to have a problem contacting other fighters. The guy has GSPs personal number and called him live on television.

I'm guessing it's because this specific fighter refused to do interviews, not because the most notable reporter in the sport didn't try to contact her. She was ghost for virtually her entire title reign, then the rare times she did speak up she came off horribly. That on top of her missing weight is the reason she's currently seen as a joke. And those are all things she could've avoided. She made herself look bad

Lip ski has a lot of hype behind her, but only time will tell if she’ll live up to it after the step up in competition.
