The Craig Bonds to me have actually delt with this pretty well, the Brosnan ones after Goldeneye reverted to glorying in his smarminess(without the warmth of Moore though IMHO) whilst throwing in some tokenism in ultra bland female spys, the Craig ones on the other hand do as you say show his more dickish side and have far better female characters in them rather than just "strong women".
Craig is so much like original
Connery

I think the franchise hasn't came up with anywhere good to go now. Casino Royale with Craig was great, but after the Bournes and with how good the Mission Impossible series has become...it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be anymore.

Idris Elba would make a good bond IMO, he is a great actor and since in the new Bond's they make him former SAS as opposed to some Royal Navy officer CUNT ('Commander Bond'), there is absolutely nothing wrong with a new Bond being black so the race thing is bullshit. Plenty of former and current Troopers are black/fijian etc

Get a damn Scot to be Bond again, the character is a Scot after all. Ewan Macgregor would have done a good job as he can pull of serious and fun.

Honestly I think the reverse, the Bourne's and Mission Impossible have become increasingly bland as any anti establishment message has slowly been diluted out of them whilst the Craig Bonds have reminded quite interesting, alebit Spectre was a bit of a mess but still with a lot of good stuff in it.

Agreed. I think the Craig films did well with him, but the movies themselves lacked some of the fun, and were maybe too dark. They wanted to appeal to the Bourne aesthetics and sometimes it worked like in Casino Royale. But didn’t in Quantum.

Connery movies were my favorite Bond. Another great one was George Lazenbys one off. If you have never seen On her Majesty’s Secret Service....give it a watch....great settings, Bond girls, lots of fun.

Just cast a fat black lesbian muslim woman as the role and be done with it.

The Bourne films for me were always more of a one and done deal, there decent action thrillers but I never found rewatching them very interesting especially as their film making tricks have filtered down to other cinema. The same with the MI films ever the first, the recent ones have been fun spy action but rather characterless.

Casino Royal and Skyfall on the other hand are IMHO both exellent films, Quantum is also I think underrated and whilst Spectre didn't really hold together that well with a dodgy script(supposedly rewritten to include Blofeld when they got the rights to him) it certainly has its moments.

Again I think a big positive is they didn't fall prey to lazy corperate film making as happened too often in the Brosnan era after Goldeneye, horrible soulless films IMHO that both tried to play to smarmy BMW owners and had weak attempts at "girl power". The best thing to come out of them was...

Oh Grow Up 007...

I couldn’t stand the BMW commercials in the movie. And having Bond drink a Heineken??? Ugh

True Detective's Cary Fukunaga to Direct JAMES BOND 25 Starring Daniel Craig

James Bond has a new boss. Cary Fukunaga has been named director for the 25th installment of the 007 franchise, with Daniel Craig reprising his role — reportedly for the last time — as the iconic spy with the license to kill.

Bond producers Eon made the announcement on Thursday, adding that production had been pushed back to March 2019 for a worldwide release date of Feb. 14, 2020, shifting Bond from its traditional winter slot (and some four months back from its previous launch date of Oct. 25, 2019). Fukunaga's appointment marks the first time a non-British director has helmed a 007 film in its 65-year history.

“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure," said Eon's Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli in a tweet.

The news ends weeks of speculation over who would take over the reigns of the next 007 after Danny Boyle stepped down from the film in August over "creative differences," according to Eon at the time. Several names, including Yann Demange, David Mackenzie and Bart Layton were reportedly among those being assessed for the role.

Boyle's fallout with Eon has been widely rumored to have been over the script by longtime Boyle collaborator John Hodge and the choice of actors being lined up for villain roles.

Fukunaga, meanwhile, is best known for directing the acclaimed first season of HBO's True Detective and the Netflix feature Beasts of No Nation. He most recently directed the Netflix series Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.

Sam Mendes directed the previous two installments of the James Bond series, with 2012's Skyfallearning a franchise best $1.1 billion and 2015's Spectre bringing in $880 million.

Universal is distributing the film internationally, while MGM, which is making the movie with Eon, is handling domestic rights.

I still haven't gotten around to seeing any of the Craig bond films.

Certainly seems like it could be interesting, didn't he leave the production of the IT remake late on?

Too bad about Boyle, but Cary Fukunaga is a good get.

Wow really? Casino Royale is probably the only "must" see, but apart from QoS the others are IMO better than all the non-Goldeneye Brosnan films.

Daniel Craig coming back is good, but I dont think Fukunaga has the chops for Bond movies. Is Bond going after international child molestors this time, in a very rural area? I think maybe this takes place in African savannah so Fukunaga can get some landscape shots in.

Don't bother with Quantum of Solace. Casino Royale is GOAT-level. Skyfall is very good while Spectre, although watchable, doesn't do enough with an excellent cast.

A director can only do one thing? Huh

I think his attention to detail, mode of storytelling, and commitment to character arcs will survena Bond film well
