As for the New York Times article saying Daniel Craig is coming back, don't believe it just yet.

After that was posted, I've been waiting for the big three (Variety, Deadline, THR) to corroborate or confirm the story. So far none of them has.

Never liked Daniel Craig as bond. They definitely need some new blood.

Yeah, I know, but times change, and if the best actor to play James Bond is black, it shouldn't matter what race he is.

But it does. It'd be like making Shaft white, Bruce Wayne Asian, or Clark Kent black. The characters are already established. There's no good reason whatsoever to change race. Just because an actor is good or badass doesn't change that. There are PLENTY of good and badass actors of the correct race that you can cast. Fuck the times. These are some of the most fucked up and backwards times in human history.

If anything, why not make Elbra the villain. I fully admit he'd make a great Bond villain, or even Bond teammate. Or hell, make an all new spy movie and cast Elbra as the lead.

It would be like making a Blade movie with a white guy. You can't do that shit.

Not really.

Bond's defining characteristic is that he's British.

If you're going to get mad that a British actor is playing him because he's black, then get mad that an Irish actor played him. Otherwise you just have an agenda.

The difference is that I can't SEE Irish on the screen.

You can certainly hear it.

I really don't see why it's any different than my Blade example, though.

Blade's defining characteristic is that he's a daywalking vampire, not that he's black. But does anyone want to see Taylor Kitsch in the role? I don't think so.

I've always liked Craig as Bond, but him being so emo about the series and talking shit about the character is putting me off.

One potential positive for me though would be that if Craig does come back it might be due to the next film having an interesting bent to it, some of the more typical "heart throb" actors that were being rumoured would have me worried we'd get something very conventional/bland.

Craig returning could also potentially mean Lea Seydoux returning as well, personally I felt she was the best thing in Spectre and probably the best Bond girl we've seen thus far.

I hope it's idris Elba and they give him a yardie accent

I highly doubt that's even close to the actual number.

He's a good James Bond, but not a great one, and in Spectre he clearly didn't give a shit. Also, its well known he's a pain in the ass to work with.

It'd be a much better move to find a new James Bond.

Looking it up there were actors who made that or more, but it was because they took a percentage of the film. Maybe that's what they estimate he'd make if he did the same.

Except that Bond is white. But Irish without a British accent is a huge no go as well.

He was amazing in Casion Royale I thought and solid in Quantum of Solace and also amazing in Skyfall. The other 3 year delay again to make Spectre and all the shit he got put through made him hate the role it seems. And yeah Spectre had the potential to be amazing and a good end to Craig as Bond (or 2nd to last Bond film for Craig) but it totally was fucked up especially towards the end.

Craig's passion in Spectre also seemed to be missing and after the train scenes the film got real unrealistic and just absurd.

Denis Villeneuve, Yann Demange, David Mackenzie on the Shortlist for BOND 25 Directors

James Bond has a release date for his next film, and he will soon have a director. It's known for months that Daniel Craig was going to return and finish his run as 007 with the one film commitment he has left on his deal, so that is hardly a surprise.

While there has been published speculation about Dunkirk‘s Christopher Nolan and Baby Driver‘s Edgar Wright possibly surfacing as each did the press tour on those hit films, I’m hearing that the three frontrunners to direct the next James Bond movie are Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie.

Demange directed ’71, an electric 2014 thriller that starred Jack O’Connell as a British soldier left behind the lines in Northern Ireland after dark, who struggles to get safe. He is currently directing White Boy Rick, with Matthew McConaughey leading the ensemble.

Villeneuve is coming off the Best Picture nominee Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, the Alcon sequel which will be released by Warner Bros October 6.

Mackenzie directed Best Picture nominee Hell or High Water, and he signed on to direct Outlaw King, the story of Scottish king Robert the Bruce, which most know from Braveheart. These are top of the food chain filmmakers, all.

As for Nolan and Wright, each has shown some exuberance about Bond duty, but the likelier scenario is they would take over the franchise down the line when it is inevitably rebooted and they can start from scratch.

Villeneuve might have a scheduling conflict — he’s making Dune for Legendary — which might give a slight edge to Demange. The three frontrunners have all had meetings, Deadline is told.

Fassbender be too old. Aidan is the right age for the next four or five.

Agreed. You want to cast someone in there 30s, ideally even early 30s just so that you can get multiple movies out without the actor looking 50 years old after 10 years. Daniel Craig pulled off Casino Royale well but he wasn't good long term. Any talk of famous actors like Fassbender and Hardy should just stop. Fassbender would have been great if they casted him back in 2010. It's going to be close to 2020 by the time they release the next Bond movie.

The best Bond films have no doubt been with Craig. He's been great and the movies have been amazing.

Casino Royal was awesome. Skyfall was ok. Quantum of Solace was ok. Spectre was shit.

I'd be happy to have him back for one or two more rounds, though I do miss the old charm of the older Bonds. Hopefully they bring that back with the next Bond.
