Daniel Craig Officially Confirms He Will Return to Play 007 in BOND 25

James Bond fans were shaken and stirred Tuesday night.

Daniel Craig officially confirmed he will return to the role of Agent 007 in the upcoming Bond 25 on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday. Craig had previously been attached to the project by reports from the New York Times and others, but never confirmed personally — until his appearance on Colbert's show.

"Yes," Craig told Colbert point-blank, when asked if he will return as the secret agent. He said he's known he would reprise the role for "a couple of months" now. "We've been discussing it, we've just been trying to figure things out," he explained, adding, "I always wanted to, I needed a break."

He also confirmed that it would be the last time he would tackle the iconic role, saying, "I just want to go out on a high note, and I can't wait."

Craig earlier Tuesday morning told a Boston radio program, "I'd hate to burst the bubble, but no decision has been made at the moment. There's a lot of noise out there and nothing official has been confirmed and I'm not, like, holding out for more money or doing anything like that. It's just all very personal decisions to be made at the moment," Craig said on Morning Magic 106.7. "I know they're desperate to get going and I would in theory love to do it, but there is no decision just yet."

Craig referenced these earlier interviews during his appearance on The Late Show saying, "I have to apologize to all the people I've done interviews with today, because I wanted to tell you," referring to Colbert.

Craig has been playing Agent 007 since 2006's Casino Royale, and has since starred in three other Bond films: 2008's Quantum of Solace, 2012's Skyfall and 2015's Spectre. Craig made headlines following the release of the latter for making negative comments about the possibility of continuing the role. "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," the star told Time Out London in 2015 of a possible return to the role.

In regards to his comments, he told Colbert, "There's no point making excuses about it, but it was two days after I had finished shooting the last movie and I went straight to an interview where someone asked, 'Would you do another one?' and I went, 'No!'"

He added that instead of saying something "with style and grace" he said he gave "a really stupid answer."

The as-of-yet untitled Bond 25 was officially announced by EON Productions and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer last month with a slated Nov. 8, 2019 release date.

I'm ok with this. Sounds like this may be his last one though. Are they really paying him $150 million for ONE film?! That's gotta make him the highest paid actor ever for a single picture. Unreal.

They should have passed the torch on to another actor. That's what, 5 Bond movies he's starred in now? Give someone else a shot. I'm sick of seeing his face.

I'm not sick of him per se, but they pretty much hinted with the way Spectre played out that Craig might walk away.

The time was definitely ripe for a new face, but they seemed to have no clear frontrunner.

That gargoyle ain't getting younger looking either. He's gonna be full bulldog in Savile Row by 2019.

Could this be the final Bond movie? With all of the clamor about who should play Bond, maybe they just let it die. I don't see it happening as it appears that there is still money to be made.

What an incredibly dumb thing to say.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE's Danny Boyle High on MGM's List to Direct BOND 25

With Daniel Craig already on board to return as 007, MGM and Eon are looking to hire a director for the next installment of the James Bond franchise. High on their list is “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle, though sources tell Variety that no formal offer has yet been made.

Boyle has keen interest in the project and has always wanted to direct a Bond film. He is currently developing a project for Working Title, but with no cast currently attached, there is always the possibility of pushing that movie back to direct the 25th installment in the series.

Boyle has long been in MGM and Eon’s sights to direct a Bond movie, going back to 2012’s “Skyfall” and 2015’s “Spectre.”

Daniel Craig is set to return to star in the new Bond movie and MGM is expected to distribute domestically. MGM had no comment.

Sources tell Variety that “White Boy Rick” director Yann Demange was considered a top choice for the job, but there’s been one last push to go after a more well-known name.

Sam Mendes directed the previous two installments, which became the highest-grossing films in the series, with “Skyfall” bringing in $1.1 billion globally and “Spectre” earning $880 million at the worldwide box office. Mendes said after the most recent Bond movie that he would not continue directing films in the 007 series, and Eon and MGM have spent considerable time figuring out the direction in which the new movie needed to go.

Boyle most recently directed the limited series “Trust” for FX, and has directed features including “127 Hours” and “Slumdog Millionaire,” for which he won a directing Oscar.

"sigh" My dad is a major Bond fan, I love Casino Royale and how badass Daniel Craig was as Bond. Then Quantum of Solace was a uneventful and Skyfall was a mess. Watching it in the theater, you would have thought it was Austin Powers 4 by the laughs the crowd was giving. I know I'm a sucker and will see it in the theater, but I'm not expecting much.

I hope they make this soon because Craig is getting old. But I dont want them to rush because it wont be good. They should have made Spectre, and next movie together.

Casino Royale was awesome. Skyfall was really good. Spectre was a shit sandwich. ~mi dos centavos

Only enjoy the one with Javier Bardem...rest were crap

I've liked all of them, but Quantum of Solace was a bit of a mess. All the Craig films shit all over stuff like Die Another Day though.

These movies suck. Overblown retarded pseudo-comic book movies. The chase from Casino Royale was probably the best scene, and it was the opening of the first one.

If they made a real spy movie and had Michael Mann or somebody like that direct, then it would be worth speculating who could play Bond. And Elba or Fassbender etc. would be great.

As it stands, it's a money-making machine in a very bad dumbed-down era for action movies, so who gives a flying fuck who they choose. If anything, pick a mediocre actor so we don't have to have a great one tied up in this glossy shit for years.
