BJJ Schools in WA State.

I trained in Seattle for 2 years. I 100% recommend GB Seattle in downtown. Foster is a little south of Seattle. So It can be a drive if ur in Seattle proper. GB Seattle is 7k square feet of mat space and rolling 7 days a week. Ask redaxe he trains there.

In south King county I would recommend Foster BJJ in Kent or Gracie Barra Federal Way. I'm not as familiar with the Tacoma schools, but Marcelo Alonso's school there is probably a good choice.

If you're actually in or near Seattle, Gracie Barra Seattle is the school with the largest facility and greatest variety of training partners. Rodrigo is a great instructor too. I have had a very good experience in the past few years training there and at several of the other GB schools in western WA.

If in Seattle, it's Marcelo's IMO although the GB association hasnalot of schools also but Marcelo is the godfather for sure and his gym is full of all levels from BB (usually 4 at each class) to new whites. All are treated nice.

If you're down south, UFC fighter Jeff Houghland has a great thing going at his gym

Great Gi JJ with a real strong local MMA gym and affiliation with Foster JJ.

Also Ring Demon is a legit gym, a little more hardcore.

Man I was staying literarily within walking distance from Marcelo's school, but didn't have room in the luggage to fit a gi. While I was there I was browsing fight stores to see if I could buy me a gi just to train while over there but the wife thought that was a ridiculous idea. Plus the whole trip was planned and me taking a day of bjj was not in the plans lol!

Straight Blast gym in West Seattle is an awesome gym, I've trained at all the GB's around here, and skip by a few on my way to SB. Consider visiting them.

Haven't they gone through a few different instructors in there short existence? Who is teaching the BJJ over there now? When I'm in WA, I actually live in West Seattle, down on Alki Beach.

Jamel Kennedy, a purple belt and friend of mine from when we trained at GB Seattle, owns the business and teaches BJJ there. They had a black belt teaching initially and were under the Saulo Ribeiro banner but that partnership ended over money issues.

It's a young, growing school and Jamel may not be a black belt, but that school is his life, and he seems seriously committed to it. I think he's doing a great job of growing the program and I also think anyone could learn some good stuff from him. I also think SBGi is a top notch affiliation. Jamel and Sonia are doing a lot to advance women's BJJ in the Northwest as well. So it would be a good choice too if you are near West Seattle.

The toughest guys I've faced in competition from the state of Washington always seem to come from Marcelo Alonso's school. That's where I'll drop in next time I'm in the Seattle area.

Kids program?

I strongly recommend Foster's:

Awesome group of guys, great facilities, and Foster is a good guy.

Foster owns one of the few gyms in the area that maintains a good relationship with other BJJ Schools in Seattle.

There is also Elite BJJ of Redmond and Elite BJJ of Everett. Both are awesome, but probably too far from Tacoma.

I may have to check it out, my boy was training with Cindy for awhile but once she closed up and went back to GB he has been only doing wrestling.

Cindy's kids program at GB Kirkland is excellent, and now she's built up a great adult program too. That's where I train 3 days a week.

I know that the question specifically asks about western Washington, but there are good options in eastern Washington also if you ever find yourself out that way. Warrior Camp and Sik-jitsu are both solid MMA gyms in the Spokane area. Julianna Pe

Yeah, Cindy is awesome! My kid was a big part of her program, with her since just before she left GB the first time, thru the Tully building days and then Bellevue. Kirkland is unfortuently to far, plus I'm not real interested in him training at GB. It's a bummer cause he really loved training with Cindy!

There are lots of schools also if you wish to venture outside of seattle.

Miriam Cordoso is a world class jiu jitsu instructor

Snohomish:

Lake Stevens:

I attended this school off and on for 2 years, legit instruction in a laid back environment. A handful of talented black belts. The head BB is named Michael Simpson, and he is an awesome teacher.

Well that's pretty awesome that finding a bjj school near me won't be a problem if I move to Seattle. I wish Alliance had an academy there (I train at Alliance Honolulu), they're quite non existent in the west other than one academy in Cali and another in Honolulu.
