My youngest just turned 12. At the rate he is going he will have right around 1000 matches by the time he's 18.

You would be surprised. My youngest wrestled some tough kids from New Jersey this past month at eastern nationals and nhsca national duals.

Sorry, I was trying to say that wrestling is big in NJ and it's tough to start at an advanced age. I have no doubt there were lots of tough kids.

My apologies. I read it the other way around. There are some freak athletes out there. One kid I saw at nhsca was from Oklahoma...he was 13 and only had wrestled for 2 years. The kid worked hard but was also a ridiculous athlete. It was crazy watching him go at it with kids that had wrestled since they were 4.

I wasnt that good but i got lucky to have great coaches and a few of my teammates were national champions. I just tried to survive every day, and when I went into competition, my matches were so easy compared to my workout partners beating my ass it was crazy.

I did. As soon as I started on the team at Checkmat I got moved to brown belt. A year later I was Black Belt. I am extremely honored to have a Black Belt from Pantcho.

Yep I remember in 2013 my old gym was Cia Paulista in Qld and thinking Portugues had been a bb for 13 years already lol. I think the average is around 8 to ten years. I started at 25 and received my purple at 30 then transitioned to Luta Livre and was awarded blue belt in that at 35. Ive recently started bjj again as well and I'm now 37 and hope to achieve bb in both arts by the age of 40-42. But with 5 kids and life stuff it could be longer lol
