BJ Penn x Gomi @ UFC Hawaii??

UFC thinks they're better than NFL Pro Bowl. They thought they could sandbag it and come when tourism is already high rather than come and be the attraction to get tourists to come. I'm pretty sure Pro Bowl brought people here... including some super fine strippers who were here for the Pro Bowl crowd.

Two things:

a) Gomi fights for Rizin now, so he's definitely not coming back to the UFC, especially not with his 6 fight losing streak in tow.

2) The UFC isn't "closer than ever" to holding an event in Hawaii. The Hawaii Tourism Board demanded a massive fee or percentage (I can't remember which, but it was beaucoup bucks) to let the UFC host an event, and the UFC told them to jump in a lake.
False. UFC asked for $6 mil (where NFL Pro Bowl got like $5.2 mil) and HI offered UFC $1 mil.

UFC Hawaii seems closer than ever to happen. And even though BJ Penn's career is practically over, how can you have an event in Hawaii and not have BJ on the card?

I went through the UFC current roster and realized that Takanori Gomi is still listed as a UFC LW fighter. This feels like the perfect matchup for a farewell fight. For both guys.

What do you think?
Dana literally shut Holloway down saying it wouldn’t happen anytime soon..

Cool. I was informed of the opposite, and after doing a little digging, it was indeed the ufc that had too high of an asking price.

Although, the nfl bailed on Hawaii for that dumb pro bowl so that is out of the equation for now.

Would be dope AF but he’s too busy filming Hawaii 5 O.

Having BJ fight at this point is a great way to make thousands of Hawaiins watching live sad and all of us at home guilty for tuning in

Is the UFC receiving money from Hawaii unique to Hawaii or do they receive the same type of payment from everywhere they go? And do you know why these places have to pay the UFC?

I think UFC wants a commitment of financial support from sponsors in order to go somewhere, similar to when they canceled a planned Phillipines event because sponsors changed their minds.

I think if the state/local government views bringing an event there would generate visitor spending/economic activity, they would gladly pay to bring an event because ultimately they'd be collecting more sales tax, income tax, hotel tax.

When UFC does an event in Las Vegas, I think they have hotels and casinos buy a bunch of tickets to give complimentary to gamblers, so there's some financial support to UFC with that.

Thanks for the insight.

I also think fighters get discounts at hotels (at least for Vegas events).

It's a fight for """""hardcores""""" who hate good MMA
