UFC Hawaii seems closer than ever to happen. And even though BJ Penn's career is practically over, how can you have an event in Hawaii and not have BJ on the card?

I went through the UFC current roster and realized that Takanori Gomi is still listed as a UFC LW fighter. This feels like the perfect matchup for a farewell fight. For both guys.

    What do you think?

And ufc Hawaii isn’t happening anytime soon. Penn won’t be in fighting shape by the time it happens

How does shit go down and just a week or two later people pretend it didn’t ?

UFC demanded $6M from the Hawaii tourism board or whatever they call it.

    Hawaii offered $1M.

    The UFC said fuck that.

    What is this shit ?

With both of them being completely done I guess it could be like a throw back fight that people could sleep through, Hawaii is a very poor place other than the tourism scene that they keep hush hush.
The only way that would be worth the UFC's time to go there is if all the tourist in the hotels would go to the fight because the locals don't have that kind of money. All they have in Hawaii is tourism so how many 1,200 dollar seats will sell?

Its actually a solid matchup at this point, with just how far the both of them have fallen off. But Gomi was cut last year.

The UFC demanded $6M from the Hawaii Tourism Authority because they knew the HTA would never agree to it. The UFC never had any intentions of doing a show in Hawaii this year, and they needed to scapegoat someone.

Side note: Hawaii lawmakers are trying to pass a bill dramatically cutting funding to Hawaii Tourism Authority because they don't believe marketing Hawaii requires as much money as they're being given.

Penn has retired, thank God. He no longer has a UFC contract, its finished. Unless they resign him again which I can't see any chance of. Gomi I don't know about but he has looked so bad in last few years, he is a punching bag out there.

I don't want to see BJ fight anyone. I had a good feeling he couldn't win again Siver. I'd rather not see BJ fight anyone. It would be sad to see Gomi even give BJ a good fight let alone possibly win against him.

What in the world makes you think that? What logic are using?

You honestly think if UFC went to Hawaii BJ Penn would say sorry guys I retired? Why?

Penn hasn't officially retired? he's stated that if UFC goes to Hawaii (whether it's this year or 5 years down the line) it would be a hard opportunity to pass up. i think he's down to fight anyone in Hawaii.

he even tossed his name in during the 24 hours where UFC was scrambling to find Khabib an opponent after Max pulled out. everyone knew that wasn't going to happen, but shows BJ isn't fully committed to retiring yet

Penn will be back for better or worse and I'll always support that fucking Hawaiian

    WAR BJ!

I almost feel like it is too late for that. He just kept coming back to the point where it feels like there is no happy ending at this point, sadly.
