Its been time to retire since he beat Hughes back in 2010.

Hes just killing his legacy at this point and people will just look at his record and say "he was a can".

Just goes to show how meaningless records are.

yea he's a big star man, GOAT, in his prime (which lasted 2 months) he was the best

True but he has something that majority of others fighters - Nick Lentz - dont have or will ever have and that is 2 titles in two divisions and had at least defended his 155 a few times.

Agreed though - that was painful to watch in march and just sad to watch the other night.

People who know nothing will he was a can. People with sense will look past a record.

Storybook time to retire would have been at Matt Hughes, but the realistic time to retire was at Nick Diaz.

He left UFC for 13 months after that, and was not fit to return.

He left UFC for 13 months after that, and just should have stayed away.

even many active fighters are gone for longer than a year due to injury etc. and come back fine.

He's loses don't take anything away from what he brought to the table as a fighter.

Does Saku suck? Is he a legend no more?

Don't let records blind you.

If he had actually taken the best years of his career seriously and not kept jumping around weight and not taking training seriously he would have been on top for a while. Its a shame hes still trying to fight and getting beat up.

I wonder how many times this thread is going to be made this week. We're up to around 600 so far.

He trashed his record by fighting above his weight class.

No shame in the losses to diaz (who penn beat in the 1st), rory, machida, and gsp. Also felt he won the first fight with edgar.

That's 4-5 losses that shouldn't have been.

It's not just that he was gone for 13 months. It's that he was gone for 13 months at the tail end of his career after he already announced his retirement. At that point people were already aware he was past his prime.

They are not meaningless. But they can be incredibly missleading. For good or bad.

The longer a fighter keeps going the more likely he is going to "ruin" his record with losses.
