I got a pair called Marley's they are a rip off of beats but they sound just as good and only cost 70$ I actually thought I lost my first pair so I bought another now I got 2 pairs.
The Panasonic RPHJE120K are $6.27 and you will be hard pressed to find a better sounding headphone sub $30-40. I do blue-collar work and swear by these for cheapies.
if anyone likes the IEMs, inner ear monitors, checkout monoprice. these are very cheap, under $10 and they sound fantastic!
i'd never normally get a pair so cheap, usually they're not worth bothering about. however i while ago i noticed on a few specialist headphone sites, lots of posts regarding these earphones.
everyone was raving about them. there were a number of articles reviewing them and they too said how good these were. people were saying they sounded more like $100 earphones.
don't know if its relavent but they have an oversized driver, not sure what that does as far as the sound goes?
i bought a pair, loved them, and bought 3 more for the future.

Huge difference between hd650 ($300) and hd800 ($1400) on most sources. Very noticeable.Do you know if there's actually a noticeable difference between say, a $300 pair of Sennheisers and a $1000+ pair?
I'm guessing the difference is imperceivable to anyone other than the most serious audiophile sitting in a completely sound proof room listening to music that's been flawlessly recorded with a ridiculously high dynamic range and that they're extremely familiar with.
Best cheap headphone : JVC HARX900
Best moderate headphone : Beyerdynamic DT-880
