They will be getting a lot of seats back because of the incompetence Trump will bring to the GOP.

If they manage to have a legit primary in 2020 they should be able to win back the white house at least.

The Dems and Repubs are both fronts for the oligarchs. They just market themselves differently. The Dems are keeping all these people that helped them lose because they dont want to win they and the Republicans both want to maintain the status quo which is to preserve the US as an oligarchy dominated by corporate power. They just market themselves as progressives. Just look at how popular Sanders was and how every poll showed him beating Trump by a bigger margin than Hillary and they shitcanned him from the start.
