Bellator 8 Man Tournament 1st Round match-ups

Sportsbook.com has futures for the winner of the Bellator 2018 Heavyweight Grand Prix if you don't mind tying money up for as long as a year. Betting the field assumes there will be an alternate winning the GP, a not inconceivable outcome if you remember alternate Daniel Cormier winning the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix years ago:

Chael Sonnen +1200
Fedor Emelianenko +500
Frank Mir +380
Matt Mitrione +200
Muhammed Lawal +1200
Quinton Jackson +1500
Roy Nelson +500
Ryan Bader +260
Field (Any Other Fighter) +1000

I'm surprised how Mitrione seems to be the favorite to win the tourney. Just have hard time seeing him stuff Bader or Mo. I think even Chael could pressure him and get the takedowns + sub or dec. He still hasn't shown that much improvement vs good grapplers. Fedor fought vs him like a mindless brawler.

Dont remember the last tournament I saw where the intrigue was that each of the participants is capable of sucking so bad at any given night that they can be beat by anyone.

Now, technically we have Bader there and he should still be considered a real a not a sideshow participant but the dude did get stopped by Tito Ortiz, so he fits right the fuck in in this tournament.

I will def watch.

Go fedor

But I don't want to see the great Russian anymore he hasn't got that aura in him now

I'm picking a thicker Bader to win it all. I wonder how much he cuts to 205

Frank Mir vs. Fedor Emelionenko

Chael Sonnen vs. Quinton Jackson

Roy Nelson vs. Ryan Bader

Matt Mitrione vs. Muhammed Lawal

Who do you think makes it to Round 2?

Is this the official fights??

Mir, Jackson, Bader, Meathead

Never happening

Sonnen is good but at mw

Rampage will out muscle him and good wrestler him self

Yeah, especially since Rampage won't have to cut to 205. Then again, a candy-eating, 250-pound Rampage might not do so well, either. But I still think it's a bad match-up for Chael. He did better against Wand and Shogun, who lack Rampage's wrestling and strength. The only hope is that Rampage's declining TDD is now weak enough for Chael to get consistent power doubles.

my thoughts. Page doesn’t have the gas tank or drive to train like when he’s young. Chael times his shots and takes him down, IMO.

To be fair, Chael is actually a year older than Rampage. Age isn't an excuse. It comes down more to serious training and conditioning, which Rampage rarely does any more.

Mir (but I’d prefer Fedor)
Sonnen (I just think old, fat Rampage sucks at takedown defense)
Bader
Mitrione

tried to say “younger”. Dude hasn’t had a fire in his belly for years.
I know Chael doesn’t have big guys to work with but he’s got a new boxing coach who’s well accredited but new to mma. With Fabiano Scherner as his jits coach he’s got great grappling in his corner.
